Assess servers for migration using CSV Import

Assessing on-premises servers using imported data is now generally available on Azure Migrate. Import-based assessments allow you to run a datacenter discovery and assessment without downloading an appliance to your machines. This feature is useful if you’re looking for a quick assessment using CMDB inventory or if you’re waiting for approvals to deploy the appliance. Rather than downloading the Azure Migrate appliance onto your environment to run a discovery and assessment, you can upload a CSV file with server inventory details. Azure Migrate uses this to generate an assessment report, featuring Azure suitability, cost, and sizing details.

How it works

To assess servers using the import feature, add the Azure Migrate: Server Assessment tool to your Azure Migrate project and upload the server inventory in a CSV file using the template provided. Only four data points are mandatory – server name, number of cores, size of memory, and operating system name. Disk data and disk sizing points are recommended as well, but not required.

After that, you’ll be able to view your assessment report, including an Azure suitability analysis, cost estimation, and sizing details. You can also run performance-based assessments by specifying utilization values in the CSV.

You can read more about import-based assessments in this blog post, or get in-depth details in the documentation page.
