AD in the cloud

What is the preferred option for AD in Azure nowadays - a replicated AD domain controller connected to an on-prem environment or AADDS? I heard the last option will be decommissioned in the nearest future.

Thank you, I am reading it too. It looks like the majority still votes for an additional DC in Azure.
