A few updates to the IoT Edge tooling and request to take a survey

Microsoft

Hi Azure IoT Edge community,

We would like to first thank everyone for providing us feedback through various channels to help shape our Azure IoT Edge development tool offerings.

Here are a few updates we recently made based on the feedback.

  1. IoTEdgeDev tool (v.3.3.3) and IoTEdgeHubDev tool (v0.14.12+) now support Python v3.9.
As Python 3.9 is the standard version of Python on some of the Linux distribution as well as MacOS, the tool can be invoked without installing older Python side by side.

  2. IoTEdgeHubDev tool can now be invoked by the standard user
We have heard from many customers that they don’t have root permission in their company own development environment. We have recently released v0.14.14 that does not require the root permission (sudo command) to invoke.

This particular version of the IoTEdgeHubDev tool also fixes the issue where CPU usage becomes 100%, infinite loop etc root caused to the path array binding in the create options specified in deployment manifest.

Thank you all for the issue reporting. We also appreciate in advance if you can take some time to respond to our survey to let us know your tool experiences and feedback.

Thank you,

Azure IoT Edge team
