PGConf NYC 2025 is the premier event for the global PostgreSQL community, and Microsoft is proud to be a Platinum sponsor this year. The conference will also feature a keynote from Claire Giordano, Principal PM for PostgreSQL at Microsoft, who will share our vision for Postgres along with lessons from ten PostgreSQL hacker journeys.

PostgreSQL has never been more popular. It was ranked the number one most loved and most wanted database in the 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, reflecting its broad adoption by developers. Enterprises are also deploying it at scales that only a few years ago might have seemed ambitious. At the same time, the community that drives PostgreSQL forward remains as vibrant as ever, sharing knowledge, experimenting with new approaches, and collaborating to solve real-world challenges.

That spirit of openness and collaboration is what makes PGConf NYC so special. From September 29 to October 1, experts and practitioners from around the world will gather in New York to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and explore the future of PostgreSQL.

What to Expect

This year’s program reflects the diversity and depth of PostgreSQL. Sessions cover everything from core performance and extensibility to the evolving role of PostgreSQL in cloud and AI. A few highlights from Microsoft speakers include:

  • Keynote: What Microsoft is Building for PostgreSQL, 2025 in Review, Monday, Sep 29, 9:40–10:00 AM

Microsoft’s Commitment to PostgreSQL

Microsoft has been investing in PostgreSQL since 2019, building one of the largest corporate teams of upstream contributors in the world. Today, our engineers are among the top code committers and reviewers to PostgreSQL core (19 contributors!), shaping features that millions of developers rely on.

Just in the upcoming PostgreSQL 18 release, Microsoft’s team has already contributed:

  • 537 code commits (authored or co-authored by 14 Microsoft engineers)
  • 948 code reviews done by Microsoft engineers (18% of the total)

Why does this matter? Because PostgreSQL powers mission-critical workloads around the globe, and cloud-scale challenges require deep investment in performance, scalability, and new architectural work such as asynchronous I/O. By funding long-term, full-time contributors, Microsoft helps ensure PostgreSQL’s future while delivering confidence to customers who choose Azure Database for PostgreSQL.

Come find us at the Microsoft booth in NYC, meet our experts, and be part of the conversations that move Postgres forward.
