New capability simplifies bulk management for users and groups
Published Oct 07 2019 09:00 AM 22.4K Views

Howdy folks,

I’m excited to announce the public preview of a capability to help you easily perform bulk management activities on users and groups in the Azure AD administration portal by uploading a CSV file. In addition, you can download a CSV file that lists the users, groups, or members of a group in Azure AD. With this new capability, you can complete ad-hoc tasks without having to write a PowerShell script or use repetitive manual steps.

To try out these preview experiences, in the Azure AD administration portal navigate to an Users, Groups, or  Members page.

You can perform six bulk activities by uploading a CSV file including:

Each bulk activity works for up to 50,000 users or group members.

To kick off a bulk activity on users or group members, just click the Bulk button in the command bar for the task that you need to complete.

You can go to the Bulk operation results page to see if a bulk activity has started, is being processed, or is completed.

Once you receive notification that the bulk activity is complete, you can easily download a CSV file containing a list of important Azure AD resources including:

For example, if you upload a CSV file to bulk create users, and some of the user names in your file already exist in your Azure AD, you can download a file that lets you see which user creation activities failed, and the reason for each failure. Simply click the Download button in the command bar, enter a name for your file, and then click Start.

We always love to hear your feedback and suggestions. Let us know what you think in the comments below. You can also let us know if there are aspects of the experience that could be easier to use, or new capabilities that you would like to see at our Active AD admin or Groups and dynamic groups UserVoice pages. During the preview you can also email the feature crew with your feedback.

This is a great feature and sincerely appreciated, for the week it was available.

This is very welcome, thanks! ... next phase would be to be able to do group addition/Ent App access at the same time as often that is the next step .. invite users and then add them to an access group or an Enterprise App.

This is a most beneficial feature. I can't wait for this to be extended into the O365 management console so all groups have the capability for bulk management.

Bulk invite button stop working in 22nd Dec. Is there hope to get it back? Now it's opening tutorial page.

Is there any way to bulk update users? Can I download the list, make changes to the csv and then re-upload it to update the users?

I'm trying to add guest users to a group but it fails everytime i'm trying to do that. For normal member, it's working fine but it doesn't allow me to add guest to a group through the template. Do you know why is this happening? At the moment, i have to add one by one. Thanks.
