Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insiders community

Hello Microsoft Edge Insiders!

Ever since we first announced in December that Microsoft Edge was going to adopt the Chromium open source project for our desktop browser, we’ve been excited to begin launching our Insider community. The time has finally come, and everyone can try out the new version of the browser right now!

listening-graphic1.png
We want to use this opportunity to start building a close relationship with all of you. Going beyond collecting comments and reviews, we’re eager to listen and engage in active conversations with you. We believe your collective voices will help us build a better Microsoft Edge, and that’s our vision for this community.

With our recent adoption of Chromium, Microsoft Edge gets a chance to grow beyond its initial home on Windows 10. As we’ve reflected on the best ways to enable a new listening system to support other versions of Windows and platforms, we’ve realized that our goals should be based on what we want as customers, not as engineers or designers.

What would such a system look like? That’s where all of you come in. Based on the feedback you’ve graciously given us over the past few years, we know it’s important to be able to quickly and easily send us problems or suggestions from directly within the browser. You also want a way to engage meaningfully and deeply with the developers, as well as a way to get immediate support when you run into a problem that you can’t fix on your own.

Other Insider programs at Microsoft have provided good models for us to follow for our new community. However, the Microsoft Edge Insider community has one important difference: you don’t need to sign up. Just downloading and using the Microsoft Edge Canary, Dev, or Beta channels is enough.

We hope that this relationship can be beneficial for both parties. For you, this isn’t just about being a member of an active group of fellow browser enthusiasts. You also get: a chance to see new features before all the other Microsoft Edge users; an in-depth understanding of how and why we built them, a direct channel of communication with the engineers responsible for them, and the chance to critique them and suggest what we should build next. We at Microsoft get valuable early feedback, your verbal and written insights about what you do and don't like about a given feature or approach, which will help us steer the product in the right direction. The ability to dig deeper and understand the why behind the what, while learning from a large and diverse worldwide audience. Finally, through our continuing conversations, we hope Insiders will invite others in their own communities to come and join in our conversation.

welcome-graphic2.pngSo, what can you expect from us? As our new features start making their way into the builds, our goal is to publish at least one new article every other week to inform and encourage active discussions on the latest developments in the Insider channels. We are devoting some of our time to reading and responding to every thread, and you can expect direct interaction from the Microsoft Edge team that promotes the deepest, most enlightening discussions.

We’re fully committed to building an open, honest and respectful community of awesome Insiders like you. We hope you’ll join our discussions or start your own today.
Welcome to our community. We can’t wait to build a great Edge community together!

@Elliot Kirk  When This test Downloads Microsoft Windows Edge DEV and Windows Edge Canary going to last?

@Deleted

Hi Edna,

It will be quite a while. There is a 3rd branch called Beta coming soon, as well.  There will be Canary, Dev & Beta (tracks) until this Edge is in the OS as our default browser, having replaced the Edge we have, now. I wouldn't expect that to happen until, at least, with the Fall 2019 Update (1909).  We are in the early stages & there is, still, a lot to be done & tested.

Cheers,
Drew

@zipswich

Yes, this is the right place.

There's a few things bothering me in your note.  If I have it right, you are say the Edge we have now, that your'e calling "Classic" quit working, in so much that it suddenly would not load Twitter so you 'switched'* to Edge C. And, now, suddenly, today that won't open, either.  What did you use to write this note, here in the forum?  Edge, Edge C, the same computer or a different one?  There may be something deeper afoot, but, for now... can you please try removing Edge C, Dev or Canary, whichever you have, then go HERE & download it & re-install it.  Report back on the behavior after that is done, please & thank you.

*We can run Edge C, as well as Edge, right now, not instead of Edge.  Testing right now not, replacing, yet.

If your issue with Edge is more than just Twitter... Right now, Edge & Edge C run in or on a machine in very different ways.  Edge is part of the OS, Edge C is not. And if your Edge is not working (right, you may need to do a Reset on your machine.  But, see what happens after you R&R Edge C.  That's the easiest 1st step.

Cheers,
Drew

@Drew1903  Thanks for the response.

Edge Chromium has been working great since they fixed the problem.  I have not touched the old Edge since I started using Edge Chromium.

@zipswich

You're welcome.  And, ok, cool.  It's nice you're enjoying it (now).

Cheers,
Drew

LLOYBENN@Elliot
I have spent many years as a hi google account user. I love to say what I want to google voice and get a response to any actions that I may choose. unfortunately, it takes a ton of memory to have this program open..do you have an alternative?

@LLOYBENN

Maybe Elliot will have something else or more to say... and admittedly I'm not super familiar w/ google stuff, but... It sounds like, maybe, Cortana is the answer for you. 'She' is part of Windows 10.  Nothing to do with the browser. Learn all about Cortana HERE

NB: If enabled, Win+C allows speaking to Cortana without having to say "Hey Cortana" to get started.

Drew

@Elliot Kirk

Is there any info or blog to read about how edge makes sites into apps
Settings/ apps

Does it make a site into a PWApp or what is happening

I live in English, United Kingdom and using Edge (Chrome engine) on Windows 7, 64-bit.

Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Edge (Chrome engine) are all set to English (United Kingdom)
Using Javascript they all return Browsers language = en-GB and not en-US.
When printing out pages IE and Google Chrome print the date as d/mm/yyyy, but Edge (Chrome engine) prints the date in the non standard American format m/d/yyyy.
Is there some extra setting in Edge (Chrome engine) to use the correct date format, or is this a bug?

@magius1962

"Is there some extra setting in Edge (Chrome engine) to use the correct date format, or is this a bug?"

Neither. This is the reason & for now, have to live w/ it... whilst things like this are in beta & a work-in-progress they are done to English (US) & United States region.  They tend to take on a greater degree of universality as release time approaches OR by release time.  These are very early Builds, currently and won't see such expansion this soon.  It, universality, will be supported eventually.

Drew

It would be great if you add Draw on pages from old Edge.

@MartynasGl

Hi Marty,

We are led to believe a bunch of currently absent items are coming.  There's a number of icons on the top bar absent, presently... Add notes (that you mention), See your tabs, Set aside, Favorites, Share... and thumbnails for tabs.  Oh & Pin to start is, still, missing, as well.  Time & patience.  BUT, STILL, good Folks are vocal & continue to point out the Edge things they want kept in Edge C.

Cheers,
Drew

@Magdev+1 for the Group Policies. We are very much awaiting the new Edge but for management reasons in a rather big network we need to have Group Policies including policies for the planned IE-Tab.

And - important for automatic installations - please provide an MSI instead of a Setup.exe (or besides...)

@Elliot Kirk

I have grown extremely attached to the Windows 7 Aero theme, and I would really like it if an Aero theme could be included in the new version of Edge. Seriously, it looks beautiful.

Please fix Windows 10 so that I can print out material from Aol without having to use Google Chrome@Elliot Kirk

@Portalastical64

Aero is not, really, a browser thing, but, an OS thing.  Its fans are an enthusiastic group, to be sure.  However, there are reasons it stopped with 7 & it is extremely doubtful it will be seen in the OS, in the future; and that OS being Windows 10.  There is a real effort to have Folks move from 7 to 10.

Cheers,
Drew

@Microbear1

Please, try it using Edge and report back with the results.  Thanks.

Maybe explain a bit more... because, I can't make "fix Windows 10" jibe with anything, right now..

Cheers,
Drew

@Elliot Kirk

Two things: I downloaded Edge Beta and just for grins, tried to drag some tabs from Edge C to Edge B. Experiment was unsuccessful. (Figured I'd try.)

Second, the navigation buttons at the bottom of the page aren't working in any of the pre-release Edge versions. It's sort of stuck on Page 6. If I click on any individual page links, it just goes back to Page 6. If I repeatedly click on Previous, it'll go back, until I get to Page 1--then it goes back to Page 6. In regular Edge, it navigates properly.
