Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insiders community

Hello Microsoft Edge Insiders!

Ever since we first announced in December that Microsoft Edge was going to adopt the Chromium open source project for our desktop browser, we’ve been excited to begin launching our Insider community. The time has finally come, and everyone can try out the new version of the browser right now!

We want to use this opportunity to start building a close relationship with all of you. Going beyond collecting comments and reviews, we’re eager to listen and engage in active conversations with you. We believe your collective voices will help us build a better Microsoft Edge, and that’s our vision for this community.

With our recent adoption of Chromium, Microsoft Edge gets a chance to grow beyond its initial home on Windows 10. As we’ve reflected on the best ways to enable a new listening system to support other versions of Windows and platforms, we’ve realized that our goals should be based on what we want as customers, not as engineers or designers.

What would such a system look like? That’s where all of you come in. Based on the feedback you’ve graciously given us over the past few years, we know it’s important to be able to quickly and easily send us problems or suggestions from directly within the browser. You also want a way to engage meaningfully and deeply with the developers, as well as a way to get immediate support when you run into a problem that you can’t fix on your own.

Other Insider programs at Microsoft have provided good models for us to follow for our new community. However, the Microsoft Edge Insider community has one important difference: you don’t need to sign up. Just downloading and using the Microsoft Edge Canary, Dev, or Beta channels is enough.

We hope that this relationship can be beneficial for both parties. For you, this isn’t just about being a member of an active group of fellow browser enthusiasts. You also get: a chance to see new features before all the other Microsoft Edge users; an in-depth understanding of how and why we built them, a direct channel of communication with the engineers responsible for them, and the chance to critique them and suggest what we should build next. We at Microsoft get valuable early feedback, your verbal and written insights about what you do and don't like about a given feature or approach, which will help us steer the product in the right direction. The ability to dig deeper and understand the why behind the what, while learning from a large and diverse worldwide audience. Finally, through our continuing conversations, we hope Insiders will invite others in their own communities to come and join in our conversation.

welcome-graphic2.pngSo, what can you expect from us? As our new features start making their way into the builds, our goal is to publish at least one new article every other week to inform and encourage active discussions on the latest developments in the Insider channels. We are devoting some of our time to reading and responding to every thread, and you can expect direct interaction from the Microsoft Edge team that promotes the deepest, most enlightening discussions.

We’re fully committed to building an open, honest and respectful community of awesome Insiders like you. We hope you’ll join our discussions or start your own today.
Welcome to our community. We can’t wait to build a great Edge community together!

I would not consider, actually, "switching" until the finished product is released. Would be like switching from an existing OS to OS Insider Builds and we all know that is an absolute no-no!  Insider Builds or Pre-release or Preview Builds are works-in-progress... they are NEVER something to which one switches. Plus, unlike the lingering IE, this may, actually, replace the current Edge making switching a moot point, anyway.

Yes, now Edge start working for me again.

The cookie and java script handling with the old edge was a mess, now it is like it should be.

Ublock works, when is Windows Defender extension coming? It is working in Chromium.@Elliot Kirk

@David61

Can be done in the current Edge.  Here and now, if try looking :eyes: for it, similar way, location, end up here ⬇

No way! Old Edge developer tools are unusable. What are you even talking about?
I have had Canary update twice in the past two or 3 days. Sure would be nice to know what the changes were. Doesn't seem to say anywhere. I feel it should. Instead of poking all over the place to see if can pick out anything new or different.

Drew

I agree on that. I understand that it's hard to outline changes from one day to the other. But it would really be helpful if we could get some short info on what we should look out *if* something was changed to make an impact. e.g. "enhanced rendering of hr" or "added the option to show Favorites bar depending on tab type" or "reduced impact on ressources significantly in certain cases (....)" .... Thanks!

@miwebguy you can enable dark mode by typing edge://flags in the address bar and once you're there enabling Microsoft Edge theme. For this to work you have to had enabled dark mode for Windows 10 in settings.

i cant wait for dark mode the new edge is working a treat videos play bang on just that dark mode needed and a few more extentions@miwebguy

You can have Dark, now. > edge://flags, type Dark in the search box & enable the results. Also, btw, YouTube has its own Dark & so does Twitter. Also, consider Lights Out... puts the focus on just the video of interest. Cheers, Drew

@cliff1455

Cliff,

At that location you can't; same as current Edge.  Canary offers 3 choices: Always, Never and New Tab page only; still, no option to be w/out it on New tab.  There are a few things which, do not apply in New tab page, Mouse Gestures is one example.  It's not a 'normal' page, in that sense. This is true for both Edge and Edge C.

Thomas,

Windows Security is in force regardless of the browser employed.  WS is in the OS not, the browser.  Not being browser specific it is doing its job whether one is using Edge or Edge C.

Just downloaded Edge Preview. It imported my favorites from Chrome, but the favorites icons are missing. How can I import the icons? Thanks.

@Deleted  I find this tends to happen with any new browser.

The icons reappear as you click to get to the site (usually after the next one site you select).

Richard

Here is my suggestion: in 'privary and service' setting, please add the option to completely remove search and site suggestions from search bar. I frequently use Chrome in public and I don't want switch account every time If I want to use Edge in public space (e.g. Coffee Bar).

@SEMSarek

Once included, it will.  End up being same as we have, now.

This address your second query 1st.

Until Dark is put in, you can have it in Edge C by doing the following; > edge://flags, type Dark in the search box, hit Enter & enable what is listed.
