We're Listening!

Microsoft

Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders!

Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading.

Our mission:
Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users.

Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light.

Community voice

When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be?
listening-graphic2.png
We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you!

You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too.

Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience.

We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive."

The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting.
listening-graphic3.png
We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut.

What’s next?
In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members.

We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears!

Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you.

Nothing found, and (unfortunitely, and without choice), yes. However, because Dev and Beta had been working fine for month, I think it's the conflict thing. I'll take another shot at that. The puzzeling thing is that my other PC hasn't has any problems using all the same plugins. Anyway, I'll see what i can figure out and update you all afterwards.

I liked using edge epub reader, its feature-rich and minimalistic at the same time. It is the main reason I switched from edge to crome. It's very disappointing that Microsoft has considered to drop it. I couldn't understand the reason behind it!

I agree w/ all of that.

I tried the update thing, but I was tired and didn't have the time to really look at it to figure out what it was telling me to do. Looking at it now, it makes much more sense. I'll try that again.

Hi, could you please quote me on that post because if I'm right this is your 2nd account I can't tell which one of my posts you're referring to :)

2nd account? I only have jbh_bu.

OK, now I'm completely baffled. I reinstalled for about the 10th time, and now it's working. I've done nothing different. So maybe there was a beta update? Just installed "Version 78.0.276.14 (Official build) beta (64-bit)." I even rebooted, and it's still working. Now if I could only figure out how to log into the community using a different account that what i'm using for browser sync (not able to use O365 enterprise for sync).

Well, ain't this my lucky day!! Everything's comin' up roses! I was just able to use sync with my O365 Enterprise account. That must have been a recent update, because I used to get an error saying the feature wasn't available for my account. I think I'll buy a lottery ticket on my way home!

Haha congratz :crossed_fingers::thumbs_up:

These little updates in Beta channel always have surprises!

@HotCakeX & @jbh_bu, some of the features, like sync also depend on services not tied directly with the browser.  It is likely that some fix went live in the service that unblocked you.  I know that our sync team has been working diligently to fix the issues that have been popping up on these forums, and also in the Send-a-smile feedback.  Thanks - Elliot

Well, whatever they're doing, keep doing it. I love this thing! Can't wait to drop all the other browsers. Especially Chrome, because MS is doing it better.

@jbh_bu

"Especially Chrome, because MS is doing it better"

Well, that's good to know, considering some of us (have) never liked Chrome, in the 1st place.  But, to repeat... Chromium-based does not imply Chrome clones.  Chromium-based can (easily) have its own identity, look & feel and functionality/features.

Cheers,
Drew

Amen to that! :crossed_fingers:

Cannot sync data, always said syncing, but never finished. Region: China

Hi there,

When I talked to my friends in China, they said only google has problem (in chrome), but Microsoft Edge browser and Microsoft accounts use the sync without the need for VPN,

which version of Edge insider are you using?

@HotCakeX China has major censorship problems. It is the 19th most authoritarian country in the world. Foreign companies have to work hard to please the government, or be banned. For example, Apple removed the Taiwanese flag from their emojis(you have to search it), and all VPN apps in the App Store for devices in China. Google has pulled out nearly completely, so that might be why it has problems syncing.

Spoiler
Apple and Google shouldn't have interfered with the politics, Apple hosts very controversial apps that calls the Chinese really bad names and they don't remove it despite many reports.

Google also pulled out because of the sanctions but China and Huawei in particular don't need them. Huawei phones have been without Google play services for years in China itself, they were only shipped with Google play service for people outside like in Europe etc.
China makes their own chipsets, CPUs etc which are the best literally and the fact is these sanctions are to stop their progress in technology which definitely fails.

Microsoft on the other hand is being the good company here, staying away from these policies that are not their business. Microsoft services/accounts/O365/Edge sync etc do work in China.
Google chrome sync and even the updates don't work and need a VPN connection.

Seems to be working fine, hmm?

@Elliot Kirk I already reported this via the  button, but all the preview versions take a loooooong time to populate the printers dropdown when I go to print. I used to repeatedly click the "Add a Printer" selection, but it seems more like a timing thing. Sometimes it takes up to a full minute to fill that dropdown so I can select my system printer. Can that be fixed in the foreseeable future?

Thanks,

Dan

@Elliot Kirk Would love to have web page annotation added to DEV EDGE....
