Introducing Buy now, pay later in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft

“Buy now, pay later,” or BNPL, lets shoppers break their purchases into equal installment payments, often interest-free, which can allow shoppers to get their purchase upfront, instead of having to wait until it’s paid in full.

Usually, BNPL is offered in specific ecommerce websites like Target, Walmart. But now, Microsoft partners with 3rd party Zip (previously Quadpay) to offer a BNPL payment option at browser level. It means any purchase between $35 - $1,000 you make through Microsoft Edge can be split into 4 installments over 6 weeks.

On top of coverage, we also aim to 1) meet you where you are. 2) simplify the application process.

Meet you where you are:

When you are in checkout page, you can find BNPL option right when you enter credit card number

For some shoppers, you can also find BNPL option right when you enter checkout page.

Simplify application process:

Applying BNPL could take time, you need to sign in with zip every single time. With BNPL in Edge, you can simply link your Microsoft account with your zip account with one click and then bypass sign in from Zip side. It can expedite the application process for you.

BNPL is currently available in Microsoft Edge Canary and Dev channels and will be available by default to all users in Microsoft Edge release 96. If you experience any issue while using this feature, please let us know through Microsoft Edge by pressing Shift+Alt+I on a Windows device or going to Settings and more … > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

You can read more on the FAQ support article. Please also join us here on the Microsoft Edge Insider forums or Twitter to discuss your experience or send us your feedback through the browser! We hope you enjoy this exciting new feature and look forward to hearing from you!

That's very true though no matter what I think there will be an off switch for this, just like the shopping feature.
Yup, but is there a way to keep coupons but opt out of zip
Complety agree. Only thing I think different is Widgets. I like the idea but it still needs lots to do to be useful enough for me.
I really like widgets, like the moments on OneDrive or the weather, always nice and refreshing to see something new. Really think there will be more features added by next year, time will tell. If you don't like it, just disable it :)
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-buy-now-pay-later-works-4f7db926-7bc8-4a9e-bd2d-d0831b... You can turn it off here, in the settings, this is only for the US and only for those over 18.
But maybe make it an opt in, with appropriate warnings/safeguards. Some people - often the most disadvantaged - don't check/understand the eyewatering interest rates and T&C's these services have.
That's a good idea, :)
The opt-out seems to be a very technical process. Most normal users will be looking for an option in settings (similar to the existing shopping opt out checkbox). I would hope Microsoft would at least bring this into line with that feature. Though given the feedback I’d like to think they had the good sense to abandon the feature entirely.
HI Whistlerpro, it is actually in the Payment Info section under profiles where it should be :)
Why has this been added to the browser? This is pure bloatware that has nothing to do with making browsing a more pleasing experience. |At best it belongs in an extension, it certainly should not be in the core browser. It's not even usable by people outside of the US as I understand it.
It would be interesting to know from those who are early on in the development channel whether this "feature" is actually still present. Anyone like to have a look?
I have an idea, why not build in a crypto miner into edge, and we can split the profits.
Oh wait I think Symantec have the copyright on that stupid idea.

Don't worry I'm sure you'll come up with some other unwanted, unnecessary "feature" for us all to complain about,
Stop fiddling and concentrate on making edge the most standards-compliant, quickest, most secure, most privacy-driven browser available.
I looked, can't find it, so I'm guessing they are A/B testing (I'm in the UK)
It won’t appear for us in the UK as the deal is with a US payments provider (zip).
Let them keep it over there. For our US friends; in the UK we have a number of these bnpl providers, I suspect run by the payday loan sharks who had to find other revenue streams once their 6000% loans were outlawed. Now the government are looking to limit the bnpl industry too. There will always be those ready to take advantage of the financially less-able / suddenly unwaged. Let's not make it seem legitimate.
Not sure we can rely on it staying in the US. Zip operates in the UK as well. https://zip.co/ - you will see Homebase there, a UK company.
"Customers that wish to turn off buy now pay later option at checkout can type edge://settings/payments into the Microsoft Edge address bar, and select turn off Shop Buy now, pay later option on sites when you shop."

@Stephen DillonWith respect, that's fine for techies like us, but I'm more concerned about Joe / Joanne Public, as I said above "There will always be those ready to take advantage of the financially less-able / suddenly unwaged. Let's not make it seem legitimate." This feature has no place as a built-in function of the browser.
And, again as I said above: "Stop fiddling and concentrate on making edge the most standards-compliant, quickest, most secure, most privacy-driven browser available"

(I forgot to say, keep checking that Gargle haven't slipped in some privacy busters into the Chromium codebase)

Maybe I'm laboring the point, but...
