Migrating public folders to exchange online, creating new_accepteddomain

Copper Contributor

When migrating public folders from 2013 on prem exchange to exchange online MS says I should run the following:

New-AcceptedDomain -Name PublicFolderDestination_78c0b207_5ad2_4fee_8cb9_f373175b3f99 -DomainName <target domain> -DomainType InternalRelay

This will create a new accepted domain. This is needed so after the migration all newly migrated mail enable public folders can receive messages during the dns transition period by creating this accepted domain with a well known name.

Is this step necessary?

Does the domain need to be removed after DNS has been updated?

Will this cause any other issues if implemented?

thank you!
