Forrester Research recently released their Wave report for 2021 Cognitive SearchMicrosoft is named a leader in this Wave. You can download a complimentary copy of the Forrester Wave™:  Cognitive Search, Q3 2021 for the full report.

In its report, Forrester stated that cognitive search customers should look for providers that offer precision of search results, tuning tools to improve precision of search results, and limitless efficient scaling to maximize performance and optimize compute resources. Forrester named Microsoft a leader in this evaluation and recognized for our scalability as well as our, “sophisticated underlying AI-powered natural language processing.”

Let’s take a closer look at the capabilities that Azure Cognitive Search features:

  1. Effortlessly Implemented – With Azure Cognitive Search, you can deploy a search index quickly and avoid operational maintenance. The fully managed service reduces the complexity of data ingestion and index creation by integrating with popular Azure storage solution, databases, and other data stores, while offering indexing functionality exposed through a simple REST API or .NET SDK. You can quickly deploy a fully-configured search service with intuitive user experiences like scoring, faceting, suggestions, synonyms, and geo-search – all while avoiding the operational overhead needed to debug index corruption, monitor service availability, or manually scale during traffic fluctuations.

  2. Easily Integrated – Azure Cognitive Search has built-in AI capabilities, including optical character recognition (OCR), key phrase extraction, and named entity recognition to unlock insights. These built-in AI capabilities, extensible from several Azure Cognitive Services, help extract insights ranging from sentiment analysis, video analysis, and translation to name a few.  Azure Cognitive Search has connected many of these pre-built Cognitive Services from Microsoft, and made them available within this service.

  3. Readily Customizable – Azure Cognitive Search enables optimization of search experiences by integrating your own data to create custom models from Azure Machine Learning and classifiers that feed into Cognitive Search. With these capabilities, Azure Cognitive Search is extensible and customizable to fit industry-specific classifiers and skills.

  4. Most Relevant Results – Relevance is the most fundamental capability for any search scenario, encompassing the ability to understand user intent from a search query and deliver the most relevant results in an appropriately raked order. Azure Cognitive Search offers semantic search capabilities powered by deep learning models that understand user intent to surface and rank the most relevant search results.

We feel Azure Cognitive Search is the best environment for any organization that is building out core search solutions, including catalog search and in-app search, as well as for knowledge mining solutions, including digital asset management, technical content research, and more. Be it via the Cognitive Search portal, APIs, or accompanying SDK, Azure Cognitive Search makes search capabilities omnipresent across developers and offers the best way to perform secure, managed, and scalable search.

“For developers, Azure Cognitive Search’s sweet spot is for applications that can benefit from the scalability of Microsoft Azure and continued advances in Microsoft’s world-class AI technology.”

-The Forrester WaveTM: Cognitive Search, Q3 2021

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. With Azure Cognitive Search, we’re trying to accomplish this for any developer looking to add intelligent search into their applications.
