cannot view Access 2010 files with Access 2016 Runtime

Copper Contributor

I have some Access 2010 *.mdb files.

I want to view them , not edit, on a laptop which does not have Microsoft Office installed.

I downloaded and installed Access 2016 Runtime from here : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=50040

When I double-click on a *.mdb , I get a blank Access window.

Can I do this?

Or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

It is normal, you cannot view the design or edit any thing. You need a full version of Access.
if you have Excel installed. you can view the tables using Get & Transform data menu.

Hi,

With the runtime you don't see the navigation pane with the database objects but only the custom user interface = forms and reports.

Does the application have a startup form? Then this should open in the runtime.

Ah. Thank you.

I thought I would be able to see the database objects ... the tables.
