I understand that posting an Announcement to a group will send emails but I have a Group that's setup as Public which I embed on our SharePoint site so I don't have to add group members.

If we do post an announcement, will everyone in the Network get the email since it's public or only those members I've manually added as a member get the email?  If only members get the email, I can import them but do NOT want them all to then get an email that they're added.

Our users click on the "Join the Conversation" link on the embedded Yammer feed which then shows the feed then adds them into the All Company group.  BUT we can't use the All Company Feed as it's littered with the # joined posts and can't be embedded on a SP site.

Only the members of a group will get an email for announcements and adding someone to a group will also send an email unless they have disabled these emails in the notification settings. Only announcements in the all company group send emails to everyone in the network because it's the only group where everyone is a member and nobody can leave.

The only thing you can do to prevent these emails is:

- ask them to update their notification settings.

- block the emails from Yammer in Exchange Online temporarily (e.g. you can filter on subject)

My recommendation is to only consider the first option. This is how Yammer has been designed. Users should expect an email (if they have enabled this notification) when announcements are posted in a group where they are a member regardless of how they ended up there. When it's important that they are part of the group, then it should be fine. You could also consider using a dynamic group to prevent them from leaving.

Also, note that Yammer indicates which user has added them to a group. You could consider using a shared account with a formal name to make sure that they are aware that a department has added them there vs just a user that they don't know.  You could also not add them to the group as they can already see everything on the SharePoint site. The downside of this is the fact that they won't receive any notifications, but it's rather easy for them to join the group anyway. One last thing you could consider using is SharePoint news. Personally, prefer Yammer because you get a lot more engagement (i.e. primarily because of the Yammer algorithm).
