Something has changed, I know there was a roadmap item to not be able to post to the all company group by default, but the alternative is confusing. First, by default as a Yammer admin, I can't post without choosing a group to notify (what if I don't want to notify that group, it's not clear if I am going to). Secondly, I can only choose one Yammer group in the "notify" section. I' really confused now on how to post an update to the entire company (note: I don't want to NOTIFY the entire company, but it appears I am going to - https://www.screencast.com/t/imipqDDzx _)

Yes, from the Yammer home page you have to now select a group before posting. This is intentional to try and discourage posting to All Company by accident or on purpose.

I can see where you're confused there given the text shown. The action there is to:

a) post the message to a single group (not "notify" a group)

b) Notify any additional users (will create an alert in those users' Yammer Inbox)

 

Simply posting to a group will not trigger "notifications", assuming by notifications you mean an alert to the Yammer Inbox or Bell notifications.  The post to GroupA from the home page is the same as a post when you go to GroupA and create the post there.

"All Company" is the name of the default group in Yammer and is sort of a "use this when there isn't another more specific group to use" in Yammer.  In your case, if you're on the Yammer home page you can create a new post and it can go into the All Company group.

 

The only way to trigger a "notification" (e.g. Inbox notification) to all users in your network is to create an Announcement in the All Company group. This can only be done by network admins.

Thanks. That's the behavior that existed prior to the UI change, but the add people to notify message after adding a group conflated the functionality of the field. Thanks for pointing this out.
