Now available: Seen counts in Yammer!

We know that it's important to understand your reach when you've made an announcement, asked a question or started a new conversation in Yammer. 

 

We've heard your feedback, and we are happy to announce that you can now see how many people have viewed your conversations in Yammer. Once you have posted your message, you will be able to see how many people have seen your conversation. Anyone who can read a conversation will be able to see the counts for that conversation, not just the original creator.

Hi @Abe Nelson , any news you can share about the  experiment with letting see the counts for any conversation that you have access to?

This feature would help us a lot, as we've established a process in place that automatically generates a post made by a generic 'News-Flash' account whenever we publish a news article on our O365-SP intranet. Today no one can see the 'Seen Counts' of these global/regional posts. Tx.

Are there plans to make this count available to any group admins as well as the originator of the conversation? There's always a need to measure group health snapshots, and this is normally a group admin type role not an o365 admin, so thinking giving admins better visibility in the ui of the communities they manage would be a better path forward here.

This is Yamtastic! How will we know if the seen counts experiment with letting you see the counts for any conversation that you have access to will become implemented??

We are actually testing this feature right now with some of the networks. If your network is part of the test, you'll be able to see the seen counts for other threads and conversations you have access to. We're planning on hopefully making it available to everyone in the coming weeks.

Hi @Abe Nelson tx for the update. I can confirm that since Tuesday this week the 'Seen count' is visible  to me for all posts & announcements. I checked with a few colleagues and for some of them the experience is the same, but for others not, although  we're all on the same tenant. Are these features deployed per user and in alphabetic order?

Is the "Seen By" feature available in reports (export to excel) or the API. At the organization level we prepare dashboards on monthly basis and this information would be really helpful.

@Abe Nelson   We can see the "Seen by" for all posts now. I know you said you were experimenting with this. We like this very much. Now that we have it is there a chance it will be removed and set back to only seeing this for those things we posted? We would like to announce this as a new feature to our users, but I am reluctant to do that if it might be taken away.

Hi @Abe Nelson the 'Seen' count is a great improvement that allows or Yammer contributors to obtain an idea of how many people are watching their updates/announcements, and how to improve both. They are also interested to find out 'who' actually has read/seen the post. Is there a possibility to retrieve more in depth  analytics about the seen count (when & who) by searching through an Audit log or standard report from the Admin center?

Is this something we can expect in the nearby future? Tx.

The seen count is visible for me in Yammer on the web, but not in the mobile app. Are seen counts going to be available on mobile?

This feature is so useful... it yamazing! I think this will drive what content we post in the future and now we'll have a quantitative way to show ROI. Two questions:

  1. Is it official that anyone can see the views on a post, not the original poster? I would hate to notify my users and then it gets rolled back.
  2. Will 'Seen by' be available in embedded Yammer feeds in SharePoint Communications Sites?

@Don Rule, @Anonymous, @Eric Deferm—Seen Counts is available and out now for all users. People can see the counts on any conversation that they have access to, not just the ones that they started. The experiment is complete. So you shouldn't fear that it will be rolled back. We do want to make these counts available on our mobile apps and have it on our roadmap. However, I do not have an exact timeline at this moment.

 

We currently do not render these counts in the embedded feeds in SharePoint Communication Sites. The counts are also, as of this moment, unavailable programmatically (via APIs). If either of these capabilities is something that your organization could benefit from, please share some more details and what you are trying to achieve. It helps us understand your needs!

Hi @Kaleem Rahman tx for sharing the above information. Getting access to more in depth details on who has actually seen the Yammer post and (hopefully in the future also) embedded feeds in SP Com sites, allows us to determine in which countries the news & posts are perceived well/less well and as such provides us a good idea in which geo- & functional areas (based upon the user profiles in which we maintain both metadata values), we have to deliver additional efforts (training, informing, ...) to obtain more and  better perception of corporate & critical information.

Do you the timeline when embedded feed seen by count available in SharePoint Sites?

And it's gone again... ?!? Since yesterday the 'seen by' option is missing in at least two separate customer tenants. What happened?

I can unfortunately also confirm the same experience > gone >  both on our Internal & External Yammer network.

Same here.  4000 users. Within our company Enexis Netherlands have the same issue. Internal and External no read post indicator.

@Abe Nelson  Can you give an update ?

Gone in our tenant as well, but not for all users.

This issue is manifest on both our production and test tenants, since yesterday. The Office 365 Service Health dashboard has no issues reported. Has anyone opened a ticket with Microsoft?

Hi @Abe Nelson We have enjoyed this feature for a few months. But now users are seeing it intermittently. Have other customers noticed this behavior?Sometimes they see it and sometimes they don't. Doesn't seem to be browser related. One of my colleagues only sees it on announcements and not regular posts.

@Katie O'Leary : everything seems workings (on my side) and "seen counts" feature is back :) Have you checked your o365 service health ? code "YA147037" issue seems solved and closed :)
