WVD for one person

Copper Contributor

I have created a WVD host pool with two users and have successfully installed QuickBooks. Everything seems to be working as it should.

My question is regarding the cost and Azure ADDS. It looks like the cost of entry is about $110 a month. How is this cost effective for a small deployment? Is there an alternative that I am missing? I know the Azure AD isn't enough to meet what is required, but ADDS seems like overkill for 1, 2 or 3 users.

Any thoughts of ideas are much appreciated!

An alternative is to create your own VM and run Active Directory Domain Services on that.

@David Brophy I'm new to Azure. What would be the smallest (least expensive) VM that would suffice for this? Thanks!

@LouisAyoub B1S can do the job just fine. I know a lot of people will say it's below spec but it's a 1 person domain controller so get real. If you can stretch it to a B1MS then the extra GB of RAM will serve you well.

@David Brophy Thanks I will give it a go.

You could just deploy a VM with a local admin user.
Then connect to that VM with RDP over a point-2-site VPN connection
