Windows server 2016 Services Tweaks

Copper Contributor

Hey guys does anyone have a link or could provide a breakdown of services that are ok to turn off when you install server 2016 with desktop experince?

Looking for a barebone config - most of my servers are application servers/File servers/ and the occusional web server (although for whatever reason the products we buy seem to use apache/tomcat)

Peter,

For production servers Always use Server core. The Server Core option reduces the space required on disk and the potential attack surface, so we recommend that you choose the Server Core installation unless you have a particular need for the additional user interface elements and graphical tools that are included in the Server with Desktop Experience option.

You can check the versions diferences here:

I am also working on tweaking my servers, I found this article relevant
