WIndows 2016 Remote desktop licensing

Brass Contributor

Hi,

I want to setup Terminal services (RDS) on windows 2016 server. I am estimating 50 concurrent RDP connection to this server but i was told by Vendor that RDS is inbuilt in 2016 and i do not need to buy separate licenses.

But i believe, i need to buy 50 CAL for RDS...is that correct ?

Hello,

Yes, the software is built in, but as you have stated you will need to buy 50 RDS Cals. They can be either User or Device. Most people buy User Cals.

I hope that helps. If you need more information please ask.

Thanks

 Hi Suhag Desai,

As i gone through your query on this post, I would like to give updates on CALs Licenses.

Totally there are 3 main CAL categories 1.User CAL 2. Device CAL and 3. Core CAL(Processor License).

Please Go thorough with the link attached below to know more about CAL licenses.

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/mssmallbiz/2007/11/06/licensing-basics-what-are-cals-client-access-...

NOTE: WHILE PURCHASING LICENSE OF WINDOWS SERVER (ANY EDITION & VERSION) YOU WILL HAVE OPTIONS TO PURCHASE CALs LICENSES ALONG WITH SERVER. WITHOUT CALs LICENSE NO USERS OR DEVICES CAN ACCESS SERVER ROLES.

For your query... posted, please visit the link attached here.. you may find help!!!

Thanks & regards

Kiran.
