Problems/Bugs after clean installing Windows 10 build 18995 over 18990 Insider Fast Ring

MVP

So yesterday I clean installed Windows 10 fast ring build 18995 over 18990 (in-place upgrade). during setup I chose to remove everything.

here is the problems I noticed:

  • 1. list of languages, theme, colors and lots of other synced settings and personalizations in Windows didn't come back from the Windows sync. (I was and I am using the same Microsoft online account)
  • 2. the optional features that I had installed previously on build 18990 automatically came back and were installed on build 18995. (optional features included all RSAT tools, Internet Explorer 11)
  • 3. Windows activation on the new installation is showing activated using organization's activation service, but my PC was never and it isn't part of any organization, never even joined it to a domain.
  • 4. Windows insider settings changed from Fast ring to Slow ring in the Windows settings.

Regarding 2, that is normal.

"When you reset a device, it does not return it to the original factory state. For example, any packages that were added or modified during an update remain. To return the device to the original factory state, you must flash it with the original factory image."

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/service/desktop/resetting-the-pc

Regarding 3. I assume that is because Insider builds are activated even without a license. And when you refresh your computer, your Microsoft Account gets unlinked, so your device would normally be in an unactivated state -- if it were a stable build. But it's an Insider build, which is activated through the organization (read Microsoft).

That's good to know about issue number 2.

about the activation, Windows insider program is Not a source to get free Windows 10 copies, you need to have either a digital license tied to your Microsoft account or your Windows 10 (non-insider) be activated prior to enrolling in Insider program and starting to get insider builds.
