This update just crashed my dell XPS12 pc, now it is stuck at the dell bios,  doing a restart loop every second. Thanks! how can i troubleshoot if i can't even get to the "windows failed to start" screen. Just keeps looping, and looping and looping. Luckily i have ubuntu on usb and could retrieve important files, but i'm not the only one.  is there anything i can copy to MS to figure out the issue, I've read at least 1 other dell user having similar trouble with this 'update'

I wish someone would help or explain why this happens when I had no previous issues with build install during the last build releases of rs3 ... I really did not do anything to my PC which is a i5 2nd generation Dell Inspiron n5110 and has worked well with both Windows and Linux operating systems ... Please respond as I cannot install build 17093 ...
Sorry that I am no help but I had my XPS12 laptop on this auto update and now I'm in the same loop.
I have the same problem too have you fixed it?
You can boot onto an installation usb go to repair at the bottom to access the recovery environment then open cmd from there so you can mess around with the file system

I am getting the reboot loop also. I can get into windows if i boot from the media disk and continue past the message without pressing a key

I am experiencing the boot loop issue on my Surface 2 as well. It shows the Surface Logo and boot loops within a few seconds, so I would guess it has something to do with the boot record itself. If I boot from a Windows Install USB stick and select Troubleshoot and then "continue" it will boot Windows 10 17093 without a problem. I reverted back to 17083 and the problem was gone, overnight Windows updated back to 17093 and the problem is back.

Aa yes i don't know why i didn't think of that. I just had to make sure i boot to the installation in uefi mode else the continue option isn't there. They'll probably fix this in the next build now I'll just have to hibernate instead of turning the pc off

Hi,

Our engineering team has suggested that you disable Fast Start if your PC supports it.  They felt this may help until the issue is resolved in a future build.

Michelle

To address the issues outlined in this thread, our engineering team has suggested that you disable Fast Start if your PC supports it.  They felt this may help until the issue is resolved in a future build.

Thanks Michelle, that workaround did the trick for me!

Very happy to hear that!

I'm the same problem with my surface 2 pro.

Any suggestion to resolve?

yes, same problem here on a HP 8760W. No way to recover? Anyone knows a solution?

My boot loop solution:

  • Create a Windows 10 Installation Media (USB or DVD).
  • Boot off this Install Media
  • Choose "Repair this Computer" -> "Troubleshoot"
  • Choose "Continue"
  • PC should now boot normally
  • In Windows disable Fast Startup in the power options of control panel

After that, booting should be possible without any problems.

Update to Build 171001, which has fixed this problem and Fast Startup can be activated again (if needed).

I followed your procedure and was finally able to login. But my normal account crashed immediately after entering the password but another account still did work. I have copied the user files of the corrupt account to a new account. This solved the problem and I'm now up and running.

The Microsoft helpdesk adviced me do a clean reinstall of Windows but that was not necessarily.
