In an attempt to streamline our processes and enable our partners to achieve compatibility more quickly, Microsoft will no longer be distributing a blob for Touch, Precision Touchpad (PTP), and / or Pen devices submitted for Windows 10 compatibility or for Windows 8/8.1 certification. This change is effective immediately.
As many of you are aware, there have been delays in Windows 10 submission approvals for Input devices. These delays were mostly associated with the processing of the certification blob. With this change to the THQA program, we can now move to a more streamlined approach and grant compatibility for your hardware in an expedited fashion allowing you to service your partners more quickly.
Our recommendation for Touch/PTP devices that will be dual-purposed for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 is to test your device in the Windows 8.1 HCK to attain 8.1 certification, and then take advantage of the Windows 10 Fast Track program detailed here:
Please note that the Windows Pen is not incorporated in our fast track program for Windows 10 compatibility. Therefore, the pen must be tested in HLK for Windows 10 and must pass in order to be granted Windows 10 compatibility.
With this change, the blob is no longer required for a Touch / PTP device to function in Windows 8.1. To be listed as certified for Windows 8.1, the device must still pass all of the 8.1 HCK tests.
