Windows 7 x86 to Windows 10 x64 Migration with user data

Iron Contributor

Hello and greetings from Portugal,

I've created this thread because I need some help here with a project.
I've an environment with something like 5000 machines that I need to migrate from Windows 7 x86 to Windows 10 x64.

The challenge here is that we're analyzing how to do this remotely (with IBM BigFix) and we need to make sure that somehow we preserve user's files like (excel; word; others;) and also personal folders (*pst).

Did anyone had this kind of scenario?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

we have done this a few years ago from XP to Windows 7.

We have used for the Data Migration the USMT (User State Migration Tool)

You can configure the related xml answer files completely for your purpose.

Please have a look here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/deploy-windows-mdt/refresh-a-windows-7-computer-...

At the beginning is is a little complex but once configured is is working quite good.

best regards

Thanks for the quick reply and sorry to answer today only.

Yes, I've started looking to this today and will probably be the best choice.

Again, thanks very much for the help!
