According to this blog post that I discovered by asking Paul Cannon about this feature in the comments of this post, I should be able to use file transfer in Skype, but I cannot seem to do this.
Dragging a file into the chat screen only adds a text reference to the files path.
Am I missing something?

According to @Deleted this works only for O365 Users and not for On-Prem installations

SolutionHi,
this is correct, File Transfer is currently only available for users homed in Office 365. The best source to learn about released features is https://support.office.com/en-us/article/What-s-new-in-Skype-for-Business-2016-cece9f93-add1-4d93-9a...
"Peer-to-peer file transfer is enabled for Skype for Business Online."
I will also clarify the referenced blog article.
Thanks,
thomas

I've downloaded and installed Skype for Business from my Office 365 portal (portal.office.com).
So this must be the Office 365 version, no?

File Transfer is only available if you sign in against Skype for Business Online, not if you are using Skype for Business Server on premises.
