Modern SharePoint site "Theme" suddenly changed from our Organization theme setup in Admin Portal

We use SharePoint Online and primarily have Modern sites created from O365 Groups.

Late last week I noticed that our Modern sites (Group, Team & Communication sites) seem to have somehow reset and are no longer using the theme designated in the Admin Portal under Settings- Organization Profile.

Our classic sites and SharePoint Home still show our Org theme.  But, most of our sites are showing MS blue & white.  I can't seem to change this.  I've tried reapplying our theme but, no dice.

Any ideas?

It seems the corporate branding you have applied in Office 365 is not being respected by SPO: Can you confirm that in other partes of Office 365 it's shown as expected? In that case, I recommend you to open a support case with this issue

@Juan Carlos González Martín  Thank you, Juan.

Yes, I did open a ticket.  I was curious to see if this was happening to anyone else.

Other parts of O365 are showing the theme I set in Organization Profile.  In fact,  Classic sites are still showing our theme as well.  Only modern sites seem to be affected.  This started last week.

Reapplying the theme has no effect.

In my developer tenant, I was seeing issues with the Suite Bar in Modern Sites. The icons were not responding to clicks to show dropdowns and it is stuck in a blue color - not honoring the current modern theme I've applied. Today, the icons are responding, but the Suite Bar is stuck on blue.

Thanks, @Mary F Harvey.  I'm glad to hear it's not just us.  Hopefully Microsoft will fix it soon.

The weird thing is:  I see this issue only on Modern sites and if I navigate to Site Contents on a Modern Site, my theme appears, not the blue.

The same happens in my production and developer tenants.  Only for Modern sites/groups.

We have the exact same issue. I first noticed it on Friday (2nd). I have a ticket open with Microsoft but no solution found yet.

If I navigate to "change the look > classic change the look options" and apply any composed look then the Org theme will return but as soon as I re-apply a modern SharePoint theme, the Org theme gets reset to the blue one.

We are experiencing the same behaviour. Has anyone heard back from Microsoft yet?

I'm seeing some other errors that look to be when they are adding dynamic styles so I'm guessing they're updating how they push out theme styles.  Let's hope it doesn't too long to get it going.

We have noticed similar behaviour in our tenant. As it's not yet used for production we haven't chased MSFT about it yet.

If I create a new group/team site and theme it, it will look correct on first load. If I then return to it the front page will have the blue suite bar and no theme but e.g. libraries will display branded suite bar but still the default MSFT theme.

I'm currently investigating this issue and will update as soon as possible.

We're experiencing the same issue on Modern Team and Communication sites.  Our classic SharePoint sites are fine as well.  Please let us know when resolved.

Will do John - I'm going to PM you shortly to get some tenant details if you don't mind.
We are hoping to get this fully resolved today.
This is a real show stopper for large organisations like ours. Could you please advise on a workaround for the time being? Thinking of directly addressing suite bar related color spaces via custom SPO theme. Is there an up-to-date map available?

Yep happening in my tenant too ... I posted the other day on this.

Also not sure if yours are affected but putting a Yammer web part seems to fail and the library/list web parts don't function as they did a few weeks ago.

I have also logged a call and have a support person looking at it at the moment.

We are still investigating and have posted a notification to the service health dashboard under SP128778

We believe we have fully fixed the issue.

Please ensure to clear your browser cache and run Ctrl+F5 on the site collection having issues - If for any reason any of you are still seeing the issue please let me know.

Fantastic! Very impressive how efficiently this was handled. Via the usual support root the escalation just takes way too long.

Thanks for fixing it!
Still having this isseu on several dutch tenants (w or w/o targeted release)
Can you please open a support ticket and PM me the details.

Thank you

We are having this same issue at our organization.

@Sam Larson We are seeing this same issue too on a New Zealand tenant:

What was the fix for this issue? Suddenly this week we are seeing this in our tenant but there is no information out there on the issue@Sam Larson

Apologies for the delay everybody. I'm currently investigating this .

@LeslieRivera I believe I found the issue and it specifically stems to modern site pages . We will work on getting a fix out ASAP and I will update this thread once it's deployed.

Good Thing!! I though this was already resolved from the top thread, as I'm facing the same issue. Will wait for the fix. Thanks!

We are experiencing the updated suite bar, however, it is appearing on our classic themed intranet site. This seems different than the other posters. Is this related?

This would not be related to the issue we were discussing in this post.

Good news everyone! We have started deploying the fix to all servers. I would expect that everybody will have the fix by end of next week. Apologies for the delays here but thank you for reporting the issue!

@Sam Larson Thanks for getting this sorted, Sam. Though... another client of ours on a different tenant has noticed that the suite bar colouring defined by their custom theme has just stopped being applied. Earlier in the week the global suite bar was using the green from the theme, but then yesterday that bar was appearing in the unthemed standard blue colour. No changes were made to the theme. I am hoping that this fix being applied for the colouring has not yet reached their tenant.

@Gary Payne We are still deploying but feel free to PM me the details and I can check the tenant for you.

@Sam Larson it appears the fix has managed to change our classic tenant to the new theme picker and can't seem to be able to undo the change, do you mind giving an update?

@Ignacio Javier Ortiz Bofill This sounds unrelated to the fix we are rolling out. Can you please open a support ticket so we can investigate.

@Sam Larson  Hi Sam, I am working on a client site and still have the theme issue not sticking.  Any idea on when this issue will be resolved for all?  Thanks!

@Sam Larson We are still having the same issue. Has not resolved.

@LeslieRivera Do you currently have a support ticket logged for this issue as well? I'd like to see some screenshots of what is occurring to confirm we are talking about the same issue.

I appreciate the updates .

@Sam Larson  See attached.. Theme chosen is Grey .. only shows Blue Sharepoint theme through out the tenant no matter what theme is chosen even custom themes on any Modern pages.

Solution

Thank you both for confirming and for the screenshots.

I wanted to confirm a few things in regards to what I believe you are seeing. The fix that was mentioned earlier in this thread has completed rollout late last week . That fix was specifically in regards to modern sites randomly changing colors and should no longer be occurring.

Per the screenshot it looks as though you are specifically talking about the global navigation bar color and not the specific site collection theme. One thing to keep in mind is we did recently change this experience .

Per Message Center Post MC173542 we state "After this change takes place, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, your OneDrive for Business admin center, and your SharePoint Online admin center will all be updated with a new NavBar that is aligned with the NavBar experience in Outlook.com and Office.com. The Office 365 NavBar provides shared features and capabilities that bring together OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Outlook, and simplifies your interaction with the NavBar.

If you’ve done work to brand OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online, your settings will remain unchanged. If you haven’t re-branded the NavBar, you’ll notice that the default color for the apps has changed to blue.

The Site theme selected for a specific SharePoint site through Change the look settings will no longer be applied to the navigation bar. The updated navigation bar will now be consistent as you navigate through a site, SharePoint Online and the Office 365 suite of apps (OneDrive for Business, Outlook.com, Office.com, etc.). The navigation bar theme will show the user-personalized theme, if one is selected. If there is no personalized theme, the navigation bar theme will follow either the Organizational Profile or the OneDrive for Business/SharePoint Online brand color (blue).  "

If you do not believe this is a personalized theme setting vs our recent change please feel free to submit a support ticket and I will have our teams further investigate. I want to ensure this is a great experience and I believe we still have some confusion occurring. I apologize for any inconveniences here.

@Sam Larson

we are using the online sharepoint site provided with Office 365 and, after customizing the theme of our site, we found that some pages of the site, such as "Site Content Page" and "Pages", do not use the same theme that we have personalized. and we added a css customization on the top link bar and quick navigation bar, they do not appear on these pages

this is the site content page and it don't get the custumization as you can see

Annotation 2019-05-03 104227.png

This is the customized theme that we want to use on every pages Annotation 2019-05-03 104338.png

thanks.

We are still having the same issue in our tenant. see the attached gif. CTRL+F5 gives same results. Incognito or 'InPrivate' windows give same result. I do not have a ticket open with Microsoft yet, but it is a month after the patch you mentioned has been rolled out. Why is my tenant acting this way.
