Groupify a Modern Site

Bronze Contributor

Hi Folks,

If we use the option to create a Modern site without a connection to a group, then is there an option to "groupify" it later either through powershell or in a similar way through UI like on classic sites?

Hi, as per the replys in this post, this is something Microsoft is considering: "this is an option we're currently evaluating (but note that it would only be available to site collections, not subsites)." look at the answers by Sean Squires https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-SharePoint-Blog/Updates-to-SharePoint-self-service-...

In the post, is the consideration only for the UI option? what about using the powershell command?

I did try the powershell option to groupify a modern site and it seems to have worked but Im not sure if that is supported or not.

I used the powershell from here - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/transform/modernize-connect-to-office365-group

We have already discussed this in other threads and the official answer is that there is not support Today to Groupify sites that are modern sites (for instance a communication site)...you will probably be able to Groupify the site using PowerShell, but as I said, this is not supported Today

it looks like this ability to Groupify a modern site is also available now. I see the option when I click on the gear wheel on a modern site without a group, is this now officially supported?
