Custom Permission on lists/libraries

Iron Contributor

Hi,

We have noticed a change in behavior on how user can interact with list/libraries. For example if I have  a list in my site where I want a group of users to edit content, I can break permissions on the list and add the users in question. Then if I send them a link to the list, they will not be able to edit the list items?

The reason is that they do not have access to the site. I have to manually add the users to site permissions with read only and then they can make changes to the list item.

Is there an official document that explains this change?

It is true that you must have access to the site in order to be able to view/edit items. This is the best document i have found regarding this topic but it describes permissions and dependencies in a good readable way: Understanding permission levels in SharePoint
