Hello All,

Question about Teams retention police came from another customer and I thought it might interest you.  At Ignite there had been a session that touched on the subject, if you would like to watch the session (Go here https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=cpMhjhjvaQU ) at minute 28 they jump into a demo but I think you will find the whole video very interesting from a compliance/Security stance.

Learn about enterprise security and compliance with Microsoft Teams

Mark Longton,

Microsoft Teams provides the enterprise security and compliance features you expect from Office 365, including eDiscovery and legal hold for channels, chats, and files. Learn how Microsoft Teams encrypts your data, provides enhanced security with multi-factor authentication, and allows you to manage the mobile applications using Microsoft Intune.

Session Code BRK400

To give you a quick idea of how the feature will work here are the highlights:

  • Works thru current Security and Compliance interface

  • Teams data sits in Exchange mailbox for Retention and EDiscovery

  • You will be able to select All data except Teams, Select Team Chats and Team Channel messages, or a customized list

  • You can have different retention periods for Team Chats and Team Channel messages if you want

  • Create a preservation lock if you choose to

Hi, We are looking at moving from SharePoint 2013 to 365. We would like to use the Teams app but we have to add data classification tags based on restricted levels to all documents as well as follow an Alberta Government policy ARDA which has hundreds of retention policies that we have to follow for every type of document under the sun (meeting agenda vrs meeting minutes etc....). Currently in 2013 we use content types to manage this. It is causing low user adoption because users hate filling out a zillion fields each time they upload a document, they classify things incorrectly etc... I read that it was not recommended to put custom content types on the Default documents library where Teams stores any documents that are added through the files tab. So how do we do still meet these requirements and be able to use Teams with the default Files tab? I'm hoping that with 365 retention polices and the use of keywords we can set this up in the background so users don't have to classify anything. I don't understand enough about the new Retention policies in 365 to know if this will meet our needs. Has anyone else in Alberta done this that also has to follow ARDA? Also if we stop using content types in SharePoint online will that effect our search capabilities? Currently our search in 2013 is not working great because people classify things wrong anyway and the search is heavily based on the content types, we just don't want to do something that will make it worse. We are still investigating the new search online as well. What is the future of content types in SharePoint online? It seems like Microsoft maybe moving slightly away from using them so much is that correct? What other tools/strategies are they pushing to use to tackle the same issues instead?
