The modern SharePoint Admin Center introduces the ability to rename the URLs for SharePoint site names. This responds to a longstanding customer request and makes it possible for site names to reflect what users see elsewhere in Office 365 groups or Teams. It’s a small but welcome change in the fit and finish category.

@Tony Redmond - thanks for your blog post. It's good to be able to see what the functionality will look like when it eventually comes through.

@Tony Redmondthanks Tony. Nice article and thanks for highlighting the link to possible side effects. Good to see this feature has finally landed. Will be even better once the associated glitch with the Teams app has been ironed out.

@Tony Redmond, as per https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=56205 showing release for Q4 CY2019, I assume this has now been rolled out.

@rs_oakford Yes. The feature should be available in all Office 365 tenants.

@Tony Redmond Can I re-use the original URL to create new site collection? Or is that even allowed.
for example – I renamed existing URL https://tenant.sharepoint.com/Finance to https://tenant.sharepoint.com/FinanceTeam and I would like to create new site collection called https://tenant.sharepoint.com/Finance but I am not able to do so even after about 24hrs
