Office 365 update removed my Foxit PhantomPDF installs?

Copper Contributor

I tried the Foxit Forums and Support. They basically brushed me off and said it was a Microsoft issue. They said they would start a ticket there, but it might take a long time. I won't bury the lede here, according to my event logs, Office 365 updates uninstalled Foxit PhantomPDF a few days after I installed it. In the middle of a BUNCH of Office messages about updates:

5/14 @5:14pm:

Product: Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component -- Error 1704. An installation for Foxit PhantomPDF is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?

At least a dozen clients computers, between 5/14 and 5/22 had Foxit basically disappear. The Program Files (x86) folder structure was still in tact but all the files were gone, exe dll etc.

History:

About a month ago we replaced all hard drives in the clients PCs, re-imaged with win 10 pro, and updated fully. this was on about 45 PCs.

Initially, we had Office 2010 32 Bit, but the client opted to upgrade to 365 Pro. We prepped for about a week and used the MS Office deployment tools to install Office 365 32 Bit on the monthly update cycle.

A week later, the client purchased 40 licenses of Foxit PhantomPDF. We deployed in much the same way as office, remotely using a batch file with .msi options, to 35 computers. Less than a week later, users started reporting that the PhantomPDF shortcut was not working and we investigated. The only evidence we could find was the above in the Event Viewer.

Computers are a mix of Dell Optiplex from the last 3-5 years. Most have core i3 gen5 or better, with 4GB RAM and up. if that even matters...

Like i said, the last report of Foxit missing was on the 22nd, so hopefully it's not happening anymore. BUT, on the off chance that next months updates do the same thing, I'd like to be able to head it off.

kind of disappointing. I would expect to at least get "Hey Wrong forum!" or a link to a previous post that I didn't find in search. No one has any ideas here? :)

I've been trying to re-create the issue, but so far no luck.

Thanks,
