Hi
I am just setting up our organisations archive and retention policy for our mail accounts and just wanted to check. If I have a delete after 1 year tag applied to the mailbox will that also include the archive mailbox?
Thanks
Alistair

Hi Alistair,
Yes, sounds like it is correct if you have set up a default policy Tag (deletion); which is automatically applied to the entire mailbox. You can see article here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/securitycompliance/set-up-an-archive-and-deletion-policy-...
Please refer to the example (Step 2) in the article which is automatically (and permanently) deleting items that are 7 years old from both the primary and archive mailbox. This is the setup of a default policy Tag (deletion); this tag is automatically applied to the entire mailbox.
Hope that answers your question!
Best, Chris

Hi
Thanks I had seen that article. I just wanted to confirm when it mentions "entire mailbox" that means the mailbox plus its archive?

SolutionHi Alistair,
That's correct, the mailbox and archive. This is an older article, but it will have it in writing.

'DPTs, think of them as a catch all for the mailbox. They apply to the entire mailbox and the archive mailbox. If you only have the DPT then it is like full control for the admin to state delete all items in 5 years and you are done. This is mainly used in environments where the requirements are strict and there is no leeway'
