Also for your information, Teams uses a completely re-designed architecture for voice and video-calls that is not built on top of Skype for Business. It's completely new.

To be specific, Teams uses the next generation Skype back end that Microsoft say is "designed for the cloud." The same infrastructure is shared by Skype consumer.

The difference is that Skype for Business has some components originally engineered for on-premises deployments that have been upgraded for the cloud. But they sometimes exhibit their history...
