The Tech Summit series for 2017-2018 kicked off to a brilliant start in Sydney, Australia. It was a sold out event, with just under 3,000 attending sessions, checking out the action in the Hub and networking. Because of the popularity of the topics, the new Tech Summit agenda now has 2 keynotes - 'Create a modern workplace with Microsoft 365' with Partner Director of Program Management, Rob Lefferts and 'Microsoft Azure: Cloud for All' with CVP Julia White.
We had packed rooms across all of our breakouts. With over 80 different breakouts to choose from, it was definitely challenging for attendees to decide which sessions to attend.
We had a great turnout from the local MVP community, and @Dux Raymond Sy was able to get a quick interview with @Michael Kophs to find out what IT Pros could get out of the new Microsoft Tech Summits.
Community Reporter @Adam Fowler tweeted up a storm to cover the goings-on at the Microsoft Tech Summit in Sydney. I had a chance to get him on camera to talk about what he was excited about seeing.
Breakout highlights from Twitter.
Microsoft hosted six invitation-only workshops at the ICC. These were hosted by @Jeremy Chapman (MECHANICS AND DEPLOYMENT), @John Gruszczyk, @Nathan Mercer, @Raman Kalyan and many others. These were 3.5 hour workshops designed to help attendees with driving deployment, usage and adoption.
The Hub is the new name for the Expo, where partners and experts from the Microsoft community were available to answer questions about their products and services.
One of the busiest areas in the Hub was the Microsoft Expert Center. Microsoft product team members and MVPs were there to help answer questions attendees had across a number of different products and programs including EMS, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, FastTrack. At some point the queue was over 20 people deep waiting to get their questions asked, was happy to see MVPs step up to help!
The Tech Community team were there to help attendees join the almost 100k strong community and access Tech Summit content on-demand. We have made the MVP community part of the booth so attendees can get to know their local MVPs. We had plenty of swag to give away too!
After the success of Community Theater at Microsoft Ignite in Orlando, we wanted to expand the concept to the Tech Summits. We invited local MVPs to come and deliver 15min sessions to share industry tips & tricks, best practices and guidance straight from the community. MVPs who were there to share their insights in front of packed crowds were @Scott Ward, @Sonia Cuff, @Daniel Toomey, @Loryan Strant, Aaron Powell, @Peter Myers, and @Janaka Rangama.
We finished up Day 1 with the Ask The Experts hour with networking, drinks and 3 panel discussions. Local MVPs, Microsoft staff from Australia and Redmond were our panelists and discussion was facilitated by the dynamic @Dux Raymond Sy!
The Tech Community is the official community for the Microsoft Tech Summit. You can find all the decks and recordings for each of the sessions as they are made available (link here). Be sure to register for a Tech Summit in a city near you (it's free!) and take advantage of the opportunities to network with speakers, MVPs and your fellow IT Pros.
Thank you to all of those who attended, presented, volunteered in any capacity! We look forward to seeing you at the next event!
