Since the Teams advertisement started appearing in the lower left corner of Group-connected SharePoint sites, we've had an uptick of folks who have "inadvertently" created Teams (enabled Teams functionality) for their Outlook Groups. A few have realized that they didn't want it and deleted the Team, not knowing (OK, ignoring the notice) that doing so also deletes the Office/Outlook Group. I know Teams is great...for what Teams is great for. But, most of these folks were very happy interacting with the Groups in Outlook and they really don't want to use Teams, at least not for these particular Groups. I know they (each individual member, that is) can "Hide" the Team, but there's no way for, say, the Owner to make it hidden for all of the Members.

So, is there a way to "turn off" the Teams experience for an Office 365 Group after it's been enabled? I'd even take a Powershell solution if there were one. Unfortunately, I'm not a global admin (only a lowly SharePoint admin), so I don't have the necessary access to inspect a Group's properties before and after enabling/adding Teams, so I don't know what flags get flipped or how to undo that.

AFAIK, this is not possible except maybe by removing their teams license!
You can disable creation of Office 365 groups for users but since the group already exists this won’t be of much help!
I’m not entirely sure about the experience, if it will provision a team and they are not able to use it or if it won’t!

There’s no powershell cmd or setting that removes the ability to add a team to a group
Hi!

AFAIK there is no way to delete/remove the team without deleting the Office 365 group. There is a uservoice here with quite a few votes

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/32150107-delete-team-without-d...

Would recommend to vote. Hopefully Microsoft picks this up in the future!

Hope that answers your question!

Best, Chris

@null null Sorry there's no way back.

It's like time travel, we can all move slowly to the future but can't move to the past.

Think I misinterpreted the question :) as @Chris Hoard said , you can’t delete a team without deleting the office 365 group also!
Once they are tied together there nowhere to run

As others have said, can't be undone. However a work around could be remove everyone from the group, and add people back directly to the SharePoint security groups. Then they won't see the group but can still access the SharePoint pages as normal.

But what if I could migrate our tenant to the quantum realm? ;)

Thanks for all the responses. Given the inability to undo the "addition" of Teams, it'd be great if we could either hide/remove that advert or insert a link there to documentation that we craft explaining what they're signing up for. Also, there's no warning or indication that the action is irreversible.

Nice one about the quantum realm :).

You can ditch the link, but you have to turn off group creation! If you don't have access to create groups that link shouldn't show up.
