Hi

The group expiration policy in AAD - does this means if this is set to e.g 30 days and NOT renewed by the owner - the Team gets soft-deleted?

are the value 0 = no end days?

If you set it to 30 days , it will be deleted 30 days after the group was created if not renewed! NOT when you activated the policy! All groups that is older than whatever the policy states, will get 30 days to be renewed. However, the group gets soft-deleted meaning it will be in the recycle bin for 30 days. Also all retention policys apply! The least amount of days is 30 days so I guess 0 will do nothing. Not sure about if it means unlimited. Why configure it on the group then..

Solution

1) Yes, it gets soft-deleted, and you can recover for up to 30 days. It's a Group lifecycle policy, not Team - small but important distinction.

2) You cannot set it to 0. The minimum value is 30 days.

If you need additional details, review the documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/users-groups-roles/groups-lifecycle

In a nutshell, it's a nice feature, but doesn't offer much customizability, and requires premium licensing... you can probably create a better workflow via PowerShell or the Graph API.
