I have a few colleagues that are consistently not getting notifications for new activity. It doesn't matter if they are @ mentioned or not.

 

When I've investigated these occurrences (which are common, though I don't investigate each one), the problem is never their notifications settings. It's always that the Teams client doesn't even have the message in the first place.

 

Their Teams client(s) are up to date and the client is starting up when they login.

 

Is this a known issue?

Usually cache issues. Have them Sign out and back in that usually resets cache or fixes a lot of sync inconsistencies. Rebooting and having the app start up isn't the same, for whatever reason extra cleansing happens with a sign out.

I've had luck recommending users to use the mobile app. For whatever reason, and I'm still investigating, it works fine there.

I'm also experiencing and troubleshooting this. Messages just simply do not appear on the desktop app for this user in Teams channels

 

So far I've tried:

- Checked all notification settings

- Restarted the app (Which may update them to what's current but doesn't stop it from happening again)

- Re-logged the user. (Fixes old posts. Does not resolve issue)

- Reinstalled.

- Cleared all cache files from appdata. Then re-installed

 

None of these have resolved the messages not appearing and I know he is getting them on his phone but the Desktop app just seems to be picky about what it receives.

 

I personally just had an experience where I happen to notice that I had a chat that was on mobile and not showing on Desktop client as well. Luckily for me signing out and signing back in fixed it, but it's troubling that the desktop client can have this happen, not the first time I've noticed either. The caching really just needs turned off :P.

Try tethering from your mobile device.

 

For my user, tethering from their desktop app worked fine. Back on corporate Wi-Fi and it doesn't work. It's likely there's a firewall rule or network path that's blocking the sync.

I have trouble with one channel only. Whenever I write into the channel, I get a Sending... message next to the time, but others say, it goes through. I don't receive any activities and messages in this channel, while it works perfectly for others. It happens from desktop client, Android client and sometimes the web as well. No matter what network.

I tried sign-out several times, but it did not help.

Any other ideas?

I'd recommend trying:

  1. Leave the Team, then
  2. Clear your IE cache
  3. Uninstall Teams
  4. Re-install Teams
  5. Re-join the Team

Can't say I've needed to complete all of the above with regards to your specific issue, but I have found the above process to resolve other random / odd issues.

I know this is an old thread, but this has been happening to us quite frequently.  I keep thinking we'll get an update that will fix it, but still I find users don't receive a chat or @ mention.  Just yesterday I sent 2 different people chats, and over 30 minutes later they still didn't have it.  The fix is to close and reopen teams.  I really want to officially roll out Teams to everyone in the Org (and replace Skype), but I'm very worried users will miss messages and lose confidence in the software.

Same, this happened to me today. I completely missed a message from a co worker and not only that, it didn't exist in the chat history/log at all. I literally couldn't see or view the message anywhere. I asked them to message me again now that I was present at my laptop (before, I was AFK), and when I saw the message notification on the bottom right corner of my screen I clicked it. 

Only then did the message he sent show up, along with the previous one that was missing. My team is worried about missing messages now. :(

@MCoop30 This just happened to me today for the first time. Terrible timing since I'm ramping up to promote using Teams as our only chat option for my org. My boss sent me chat messages at 10am today, and I just saw them at 5pm (yet they are marked with the correct original time). I know these were not bold/no # indicator, no pop ups, because I was at my desk and active in chats all day and never saw these marked as "unread". How is this possible? Not instilling confidence for me... :(

@Katrin Weixel, yep, exact same scenario.  I was just getting ready to officially announce Teams rollout to replace Skype, but this issue has given me cold feet. Anyone know if there's someone from the Teams product team we can loop in here?  Glad the issue is not just our environment but if this is a known issue there should be more documentation, or more people complaining!

@Llexis apparently this must be an isolated issue.  I created a fresh post to try and and get some responses, but nobody replied.

I haven't noticed the issue the last few weeks though, so maybe Microsoft quietly resolved it?  I think I'm going to push forward with phasing out Skype and hope for the best.  Maybe running in "islands" mode is part of the problem.
