In Skype meetings, we could launch the meeting in advance and upload a PowerPoint so when the actual meeting rolled around it was already there and ready to be shared.

In a Teams meeting, that doesn't seem possible.  You can upload the PowerPoint you want to share but if you stop sharing it, it seems you need to upload it a 2nd time.

Is that a feature that will come to Teams?  Or is there a way to do it that I'm not seeing?

Join the chat of the meeting in advance and attach your powerpoint, it's then available for preview and you can easily pick to have it displayed during the meeting.

Cool. I'll give that a try. The reason I asked the question is I had some users trying to share a large PPT for a meeting (it had videos in it they wanted everybody to hear) and I had thought on Skype if you pre-loaded the attachment, when users connected it would cache it. But I may be totally wrong on that.

When you present a powerpoint through either SfB or Teams it's kind of loaded into a browser view of the document, so the size of the powerpoint doesn't really effect the viewing experience. Its not really cached per-se.

The original poster may have been referring to the size of the PPT in terms of the time it takes to upload a 25MB deck vs a 1MB deck.

I liked being able to upload a deck before the meeting started which was a feature in SfB. This has advantages over a desktop/window/file share that Teams has (read: limited function vs SfB). Additionally, if one shares a PPT via "file" option, the presenters options aren't even available so it's really desktop sharing (which carries a potential to distract audience) or window.

My guess is Teams developers didn't go for this function because if one chooses 20 members from a Team of let's say, 50 employees, all the members of that Team could ostensibly enter the meeting a few mins. before or after the call and view the slides.  @Steven Collier

@zeppep19 those features still exist in Teams. If you attach your powerpoint to the conversation for the meeting before it starts you can choose it when you press the content button in the meeting. This is then displayed in the same way as Skype, not via a screen share.

If you meeting is in a channel then everyone in that Team could see your file, if it's not in a channel then only the people invited to the meeting would see the file.

@Steven CollierJust tried to do it today in the desktop app and it didn't work. Selecting the file from my PC to upload, didn't make a powerpoint file show up in the "Share tray - powerpoint row", but I was able to see the presentation, however I wasn't able to start videos that were embedded.

How do you add powerpoint files to a meeting? Does it have to be done before the meeting? Sharepoint?

A colleague tested this and he wasn't able to click on videos because in fullscreen mode the overlay from teams always went over the "Play" button. The whole powerpoint integration seems to be a lot less mature than it is currently in Skype for business.

I tested this and it works from an email attached presentation - The presentation is visible in Teams with a paperclip indicating it's "from Outlook".  What I don't see is the ability to load that to a Teams Room System.  Wondering if that's on the roadmap, or if I'm just not doing something correctly.

@David PhillipsThat would be a weird workflow with the E-Mail (where would I send this E-Mail?). Would that get distributed to the other participants in a meeting as well?

What we would want as a Team/Company would be to have the same behaviour of Teams and Presentations as "Skype for business" offers with the "upload powerpoint presentation" option (pre-download the presentations to participants and share clicks / switching of slides / start+pause video events). That's our current use case that works really well with skype for business and until that's part of Teams, we'll certainly not switch to Teams (until we would be forced to, but that may also open up looking for other options).

@SHengelein I'm referring to preloading attachments.  When you attach files to a meeting invitation and include a Skype enabled conference room, they're available as presentable content in Skype meetings.  This is available today with Skype for Business Online, but it doesn't seem to work with Teams Room System.

@David PhillipsAh, very interesting information.

For us, that's not really a use case, since we usually create the presentation files just a day before the actual meeting (happens on a regular base every fortnight). Probably that's why we've never noticed.

We usually just use the "Share PowerPoint files...." option.

@Steven CollierI just don't see that.  The presentation in the conversation does not appear as selectable content when sharing
