Hi,
I have seen similar conversations but was not able to find a resolution. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
The notifications from new/existing chats are not showing on teams desktop app. They were showing correctly few days back and the issue started around 10 days ago.
When I receive a new chat or a response to an ongoing chat I cannot see a banner or pop up showing the activity.
The icon in the task bar changes to red and when hovered says there is new activity.
I have Teams running/open in the background and all the notifications settings are set correctly.
I have submitted a problem via Teams, and the support team were not able to provide a resolutions.
Thanks,
Hima

Hi,
I guess you have checked the notification settings, click on your profile picture in Teams and select Settings and then in the Notifications section the settings for Messages should be set to Banner.
You can also check so that quiet hours are not enabled in Windows, this is set in Focus Assist in Windows 10.

Hi Linus,
Thank you for the response.
yes, I the notifications are set to banner, and the focus mode is disabled.

You could also try to reinstall Teams, uninstall it, clear files from:
%AppData%\Microsoft\teams\
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Teams
and then reinstall Teams. You could also see if you have the same problem at another computer.
Since you are a Microsoft employee I guess you are in a early release ring, could be some bug/problem there.
Is there any difference if you have Teams window open or minimized?

Is there any difference if you have Teams window open or minimized? I read in another thread about users that didn't get notifications when Teams were minimized.

I am part of a medical organization that uses Teams across many disciplines. over the last month we have stopped receiving notifications for teams and chat. We have verified all settings, uninstalled and reinstalled. We have also tried several other things that we knew to have affected it in the past (skype running in background). We depend on this alot and would appreciate any suggestions and/or updates on a potential solution.

I am experiencing the same issue.

Adam,
Just want to point out, that as an end user, we're put in a difficult situation. We don't have direct access to Microsoft support, and getting a ticket submitted usually requires navigating through Tier 1 and Tier 2 support from our organizations, wasting a lot of time, and not guaranteeing that a trouble ticket will be submitted to Microsoft. Because of this, I imagine many corporate issues with 365 go unreported.
03-13-2019 08:34 AM
@Peter Mcdermott It's highly likely that this issue is related to your companies infrastructure or your local settings though, there are 420,000 companies now using Teams, this isn't effecting all of them. Why wouldn't your support be the first port of call?
The most common issues we see in here are
1. People expecting notifications for every post, when they aren't Following as well as favouriting
2. People turning on Focus Assist
3. Network infrastructure e.g. proxies etc. that are effecting the Teams traffic

Steven,
Thank you for the perspective--I didn't realize these challenges you mentioned. I find it odd that I'm getting all of my IMs and notifications WITHIN the application, but not receiving any desktop alerts. I'll go through my organization's tech support as you suggested.
Thank you.

I just started having this issue also. Here are my symptoms:
- No banner notification
- No sound
- Team icons in sys tray goes red if I have something to look at
What I have done to attempt to remedy this issue:
- Confirmed to allow banner notifications for everything
- Uninstalled, wiped data from appdata/local/microsoft/teams, reinstalled
- Ensured I'm not in Quiet Mode (confirmed as I receive notifications from many other things)
- I am not in Do Not Disturb as I am active and green
- Confirmed others in my organization are not having this issue as it is seemingly isolated to me
What else can I try? As a person who is a first point of escalation for my company, it is frustrating to not know when people are trying to contact me. I can retrain myself to look at the system icon tray but that is rather inconvenient when everything was working perfectly fine last week.
Thank you.

Hi @mookie
Was wondering if you have managed to solve your issue?
I am experiencing the exact same problem as well:
- No banner notification
- No sound
I have done what you did to remedy the problem but it has not worked. I still do not receive any pop-up / banner notification. The only thing is the icon shows up red instead of the usual green tick if I have something to look at or if I receive a chat etc.
Did you manage to find a solution for yours?
Much thanks

I did, yes. Unfortunately it wasn't something I had to do. My profile at my office was on a different domain and our IT Manager had to put me back on it and once that happened, it worked as advertised. My home PC would work fine which lead me down the path of it being an internal issue. I wish I had more info but that is all I have.
Best of luck to you!

@adam deltinger I did create a ticket. Recreated the issue with the support rep. This is actually happening on 5 different tenants I manage who all have different setups such as domain registrars/DNS hosting (GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Sectorlink, etc) and are all on different local network (Windows Server 2012 vs 2016 vs no server, Cisco switches/firewall vs Asus modem/router) and client hardware (Windows 10 b1803-09/1903 or MAC OS). The support rep said that other tenants have reported the same behavior and they are working on a fix.

Notifications are working for us again as of last week!

Please click on your profile >> Go to About >> Select Developer preview.
After that it will sign out and again asking for sign in.
I have done this and it is working. Please try and share your feedback.

@Mangesh_Jadhav What if you don't have 'developer preview' under Settings - About?

I have exact the same problem.
No banner, nothing shows up since a few weeks ago.
No Options are changed, nothing was installed. Just a regular windows update.
Does here anybody, who got the bugfixed version in the meantime?
07-31-2019 11:34 AM
Same here, happened a short while ago. I am not getting any notifications from Teams. My icon changes to red with no sounds or popups, which makes it look like I am busy or on a conference call. I typically get an email about an hour or so later that lets me know that I missed a message.
I really, really miss skype.

Notifications are lagging, mainly when multiple tenants (guest accounts) are used. What for MS Teams is created if notification setting has an option "banner and email"? Email? What year is it?
08-09-2019 05:50 AM
I have it set to "Banner and Email" and am not receiving notifications. Also, there are no guest accounts and the year is currently 2019. @Karlis Fersters
08-09-2019 02:08 PM
Same here. I have been struggling with this notification feature for the last 10 days. I no longer get any notifications on my windows 10 machine. I have turned on every possible notification and my meetings are no longer poping up. I do get a Message popup but not my meetings.
08-15-2019 10:22 AM
A related behavior I noticed was that notifications were working for chats, but only when the chat occurred inside the "Chat" tab. If they occurred in a specific channel on the "Teams" tab, there were no notifications. Upon further investigation, I discovered that each individual Channel within Teams has an override for notifications. If you click on the three dots while hovering over the "General" channel, for example, you will see an option for Channel Notifications which is turned off by default! That option seems to override the general setting for notifications that is part of your profile. Set it to notify you when there is a new post in the channel and the notification is back on.
Hopefully this will help some of you having this particular difficulty!

Yes, it appears that by default all channels are muted and must be unmuted explicitly. Which, in my opinion, is not expected behavior.
08-15-2019 11:38 PM
@babaracus I was sarcastic about what year is it because I'm not expecting e-mail fallbacks for messaging application because notifications are lagging when switching between different tenants even when all Christmas tree lights are on like banner and e-mail + follow the channel.
08-15-2019 11:57 PM
08-22-2019 06:39 AM
well we have 25 for which this is not the expected behavior,
when you are included in a team you expect notification by default.

I have played with all notification settings. I do not get notified when I have an upcoming Teams Meeting. Does anyone know how to fix this?
08-28-2019 08:41 AM
Hi,
Same here. A user does not receive incoming call notifications : no pop-up, no sound.
His computer is playing a sound only when the call is aborted by the caller.
Microsoft still did not gave an answer to address this issue ?
Cheers,
Max

We have several users (including myself) that are having an issue with this. Notifications for the channel are turned on but new posts don't even show up in the Activity feed. This doesn't happen for all teams/channels, just some.
09-09-2019 02:30 PM
@adam deltinger I finally understand why this is set as such from this post, but more people intuitively think that if they join a Team, and all notifications are turned on, they will receive notifications without having to explicitly subscribe to the Team.
To say this a different way, if you enroll in something, you generally expect that you're going to get notifications, and if it is too much, then you can unsubscribe. That is enrollment led to new notifications and users understand WHY they are receiving them. If they have to unsubscribe, then they're a lot less confused than if they Join a Team and then no notifications ever come in. Then they look in Settings and see that all notifications are turned on. It's a lot more confusing. MAYBE if there were notification settings for each Team in the general settings, I'd be more on-board with notifications off by Default, but as it stands, it is not at all obvious, even for our more tech savvy users, in my experience. They still reach out to our Help Desk for help with this regularly (except for those that Google on their own and find this page). At the very least, there should be some sort of prompt when someone joins a Team to decide on notifications. I'd suggest both that AND including it in the notifications settings.
09-09-2019 03:07 PM
I still do not get my upcoming meeting notifications. It should have nothing to do with teams in teams. I should be notified that i have a meeting in 15 mins. Why is this so hard.
09-09-2019 03:16 PM
@APadgett - this is the wrong forum for that. This is about the Teams desktop application, not Outlook.
@adam deltinger - I will note that I received a notification for this PUBLIC COMMUNITY FORUM after I posted one thing in it. Unlike the MS Support forums where there's an option to subscribe to notifications for all new posts, or only for replies, there are no such options to opt-in to notifications on this site. So, the default behavior for the public web forum is to opt into notifications, but the default behavior for company Teams that I join is not to be subscribed. Do you see how that is backwards??

I had the same issue and fixed it seemingly by selecting my profile picture and the reset status (it was set to busy). Suddenly desktop banners started appearing again.

This issue fooled me too. I put a ticket into Microsoft and the answer was -
Go to the Teams tab
Hover over the team in question, a little arrow will populate to the left of the Team title. Click on it to expose the "General" below it.
Click on the ellipses to the right when you hover over General.
Select "Channel Notifications"
In the "All new posts" select "Banner and Feed" and also select "Include all replies".
Save.
Bam, we tested and it worked.
