Hi,

This is a bit dummy question, but is there an instructions how to use these features on the messaging policy?

- Owners can delete sent messages

- Allow users to translate messages

- Users can send priority notifications

Teams Messaging policy settings

 

I tried to search the instructions e.g. for translate...nothing. Okay I had the following:

Use inline message translation in Microsoft Teams

For priority I get nothing.

So basically @adam deltinger what you are saying, is the priority is on the policies already, but it is not supported by the client?

 

About the polices, I believe you did not noticed that I had the same URL already to the policies :)

 

From other two policy settings:

Q1: Have you found the translate feature on the client?

Q2: Can you really see the differences on the client between "Owners can delete sent messages" and "Users can delete sent messages"? Does this affect to the P2P chats or only channels, but there either I feel I could not found any differences on the client.

Hi the new Urgent priority is a different one, not yet released !

 

You can set the priority flag today in teams in the format tool when composing a message! Afaik, this doesn't do much though

 

Owners delete chat: they can delete other members messages

Do you know is the delete of the P2P chats or in a channels? I tried to block the delete access from myself and I still was able to delete my own messages.

 

What about the translate? Is that also a feature for coming or is it so that I have not found the place for it? :)

 

 

IM a little uncertain about if this goes for chat also but it’s applied to channel conversations! The policies takes a while to propagate so try again later!

Translate is an option under the messages itself! It’s not new!

Ok, need to check those, but I believe I have had those settings already some time. I actually marked both delete options to $false. So users on that policy should really be unable to delete anything.

 

About the translate, that is interesting. This is the policy sets:

TeamsMessagingPolicy : Allow Translate

Get-CsTeamsMessagingPolicy -Identity "Allow Translate" | fl AllowUserTranslation

AllowUserTranslation : True

 

But as you can see, on the menu there is no translate option available. I found this: Translate a message in Teams, but does not open mysterios any more.

Ok! Try log out from the desktop app and try again! Also try from the web client
Also check to see if the button is enabled for verification, in the teams admin portal:

Messaging policies do apply to chats and team conversations. However in 1:1 chat each person is considered a user, there is no "Owner" in a 1:n chat. Once set and it processes through, you won't be able to delete messages in chat if "User cannot delete" is set.

But don't forget this will also disable it for Team conversations which IMO, you want to at least give them the ability to edit. I don't see an issue with delete it keeps things in order, especially since people start new conversations all the time and you want them to be able to fix it.

If there is a legal reason for not deleting you don't have to worry about it, because if you have the mailboxes or Teams in retention policies you can access those deleted messages at any time via compliance search.

I made a test policy and disable both of these. And still I cannot see any impact for the users:

a) On channel, other person (owner) can delete others messages.

b) On P2P chat both can delete owns, but that has been the case withouth those policies.

 

So what I do not understand on this? :)

 

Remember that I'm testing these as I like to understand the Teams a bit.

Just for curiosity, are you able to do inline translate?

 

 

Yes I have for both chat and team chat. One thing to check besides waiting a day or so is make sure your user has Skype for business license enabled. It is required for some policies as it’s still backed by Skype. Seen some people remove the Skype license when they went to Teams thinking they didn’t need it or was a way to disable.
