Hi,

 

We have a user reporting an issue downloading/opening files shared in private chats (from different people), mainly PPT decks. When trying to download, it comes up with an error message, and when trying to open in Teams directly, it says the user doesn't have permission.

It's a recent issue (just a few days - was working fine before), and when I asked him to access the Teams folder in OneDrive, it shows that no files shared over the past week has been saved there.

 

He reinstalled Teams, but the problem still persists. As far as I know, no one else in our organisation has the same issue.
Any idea what might cause this?

Have you tried with other people? Sounds like whoever shared the files in chat unshared moved or deleted the files from their OneDrive since Teams basically uploads to the person chatting OneDrive then shares it with the other end of that conversation.

It's happened with three different people, and they hadn't touched the files at all.

But only the one person having the issue? Can those users share files with the guy in Teams with specific people option directly?
Is this happening in 1:1 chat? does the user with problems have a full O365 license?

Yep, 1:1 chats, and yes, he has a full license.

Sorry I meant, can the people Share with specific people option from their onedrive, taking Teams out of the equation.
it sounds there is a problem with Teams for this specific user since all the conditions to be able to share a file in a 1:1 chat are met
Yeah but it could also be a OneDrive issue not allowing the sharing to happen for that user due to some policy or something. When the file is Shared with them, does it appear in the uploaders "Microsoft Teams folder at all?" Basically what happens, Person uploads, it goes to Teams folder, it gets shared with "SPecific People" to the users in the chat. Need to see what steps if any Teams is getting through. That's also why I was suggesting can they even do that Sharing from OneDrive manually to that user.

Hello. Can anyone please help me out on this issue im currently on? I have a video file that was an mp4 video but once I've placed it in Light works (An editing program like adobe primer), it changed it into an Lvix file and now im unable to view the video. i am currently using a Windows 10 and i would really want this fix as soon as possible today.

In a 1:1 chat I send a file (either drag and drop OR file upload) and the recipient receives the following message when trying to access:

When I check OneDrive and look in the "Microsoft Teams Chat File", the file is there but no permissions have been applied. This happens both in the web and app.

I can access files that people send to me via chat when they follow the same steps I do.
