Hi all,
Based on your experience and best practices could you please share the information about the best options you recommend for structuring a team within an organisation.

For example,
1. What are the criterias you are considering before you any create a team within in an organisation? How you are defining number of teams per department?
2. How are you configuring or defining rules for file share and access management in multiple teams within the same department. For example,
Team IT has the following channels (business Services team, BI Team, Service desk etc) And these individual channels have their own team with the different functions.

What are the best practices to create Teams within the organisation? What strategy do you recommend to avoid creation of multiple teams with duplicate purpose.

Thanks for your help on this.

The best way of succed with an implementation is understanding the structure of the organization and also the different processes people use..For certain departments the may need many teams, a team for projects, a team for the department itself and so on..

It is much depending on what people may see as well..You can have a project team with channels for each projekt but that also means that all the members can access all the projects data!

Do workshops with every departerment and sketch a setup that could work and do a pilot

For different teams that needs to cooperate , you could set up a overall team or a separate library with all the members , and then tab that library to the corresponing teams..

Microsoft have a lot of great documentation about procedures for implementation:

I always approached it based on Team of people or security. Usually if the department is larger, I have a large team, with channels for each sub department to allow for cross department questions and collaboration in that Team. Then I would have a team for each sub department where those departments work / collaborate out of. But we would also have Teams based on functions which could include other departments such as like you point out Service Desk Team, or individual larger projects that span multiple departments or sub departments.

Until private channels come into the mix, you're going to have more Teams than it seems necessary for sometimes. Usually Teams make sense, but for smaller one offs creating a Team for a single channel or smaller set of work I usually try to push group chats. However, with group chats, the 19 person limit sometimes makes that a limitation too and require a Team, and sometimes at that point I'll say just use e-mail :) lol.
Thanks Chris for giving an additional insight. Much appreciated. Cheers!
