Team Members (internal, not guests) unable to access files when providing membership

I have seen several issues of adding internal team members (not guests) to a team and them being unable to access files unless you make them an owner.  Has anyone seen this, or know of a resolution, as we don't want to keep giving all team members owner rights.

This is not expected unless somebody tampered with the Permissions in SharePoint!

Does this happen in one team only or random?
Is it for all channels in that team?
Go to the SharePoint library, ( “Open in SharePoint” from teams) click the cogwheel and check the permissions for members under “site permissions” first!

@adam deltinger  For this particular case, there is only the General channel.  I'm the owner and didn't touch the permissions in sharepoint - but I did double check them just in case. The "members" group have edit access.  It's odd, because all other members can access the files no problem.   This is the 3rd or 4th time we've had this happen - where existing members who were added when the group was created have no issues, but adding a new member causes this.

Where did you add the users from? Teams/sharepoint/admin portal?
Also, for how long has it been since they’ve been added??

@adam deltinger I was sent a request to add her today (as the owner) through teams and I accepted it.  She can get to the channel just fine - just none of the files which do not have any unique permissioning. I also tried deleting her from the team and adding her back in myself.
