Hi everyone,

 

I've recently been looking into Microsoft Team Applications for the company I work at.  I have thought of one in particular that could be very beneficial, but I am unsure how to narrow down my search to find it if it is already available.

 

It would be a rather simple application.  I'm thinking of it just being a tab that could track team member's working status.  Not detailed statuses, but rather just something like a color coded table (red vs. green) of whether or not a team member is busy working on a task (whatever that may be) or not.

 

If something like this isn't out there - i'm sure it wouldn't be hard to create something like it.  Something like it would help small to medium sized companies to streamline their work to ensure people are kept busy with working on billable work rather than overhead tasks.

The Chat tab in Teams already shows me who's available and who isn't.

So something like the free/busy info we get from Exchange? :)

Yeah, the presence tells you your current status and you can now also set a custom status message! Although you can also you planner for this, creating buckets for for example each member we’re you can add your current work as tasks and set in progress, finished etc etc! Create a planner tab and try it out!

I guess I should have clarified.

I'm looking for something a little different rather than just a person's availability via their 'chat status' (whether they are in a meeting, call, etc.).

I'm thinking of something more along the lines of being able to click on a separate tab, and being able to see a list of all team members with 'work statuses' indicating whether or not they are working on something that is billable to a client (positive income for the company), or if they are working on something that is overhead (negative income for the company). Every team member would be able to alter their 'work status' to either 'busy with billable work' (red color), or 'free to work on billable work' (green). Of course those could be settings that could be changed depending on the type of work a company does, etc.

I feel as in lots of medium to small sized companies, that this would streamline production. Normally there are managers to control this, but say for example... if another senior level employee had maybe 3 - 4 hours of 'billable work', they would be able to easily reference this tab to contact a person who is essentially available to work on that task. Rather than asking a manager to go and find someone who is free to work on stuff like that. It would shorten the process by simply incorporating something so small.

It could almost be thought of like an employee 'sign-in / sign-out' board. Except the 'sign-in' part would mean: "I'm busy with billable work", and 'sign-out' would mean: "I'm free to assist you with your billable work".

There’s no such built in but may be any third party application! Check the different apps available when creating a new tab! I guess you can sort of built this with planner in some way, but may be to much overhead? Also it sounds like some form of calendar really! But that won’t work well from teams! Maybe build a sharepoint calendar and have that as a tab? I would check out these options and see if any of them would fit your needs

Honestly i would use powerapps but that’s because I’m getting good at it and quickly build this app. You could have a button to set your status and everyone else’s status listed and it could just run off a SharePoint list. Load the tab, the app pops up.

You could even use SharePoint list with a view with the conditional formatting on the fields and the list of employees. Add the list as a tab and then you could have a view so it shows the persons own entry they can update and then a drop down view that shows everyone for managers or whomever to see all statuses.

You could even do it with excel online technically depending on how many could go edit at once but it wouldn’t be able to trim based on user.

Reading your comment made me realize how much simpler this problem actually was.

 

This is what I ended up doing:

 

1. I created an excel spreadsheet and conditionally formatted cells to highlight to either green or red based on people's working statuses.

2. I then uploaded it in Microsoft Teams as an excel file which can be edited be everyone on that list.

 

It's not the most user friendly - but at least it works.

 

This seems like it could be a very easy addon to make for Microsoft Teams by a developer in the future.  Until then, I have found something that works!
