I am a guest with an external organisation's team.
That guest team appears in my dropdown list of accounts (see image below).
The other account/org is my own. I am the administrator and owner of our company account.
The issue is when I am sent a chat in Teams from the external team, but I am active in my team. I am not notified that someone is trying to chat with me from the Guest account.
I will never know someone is trying to chat with me UNLESS I change to the Guest Team.
So in essence I have to 'pull' the chats by logging into the respective team.
I dont want to keep switching accounts just to check if someone is trying to chat with me on a project. I want to be notified irrespective of what account I have active.
Why cant I be notified of the chat from another team without having to make that team active? It defeats the purpose of even having chat, as it wont be pushed to me. Whereas Skype shows you who is chatting with you at all times, and you are just logged into the one account. Even a notebook in onenote shared with me indicates when I am to read a change in the notebook, via the bold text. And I never have to login to other accounts to see this.
Thanks in advance.

You used to get a red mark over the guest selection area when you got an activity feed / chat notice, that no longer the case?
What I don't like is you can't even make use of external chat when you are a guest of their Team since it will want to default to the local user chat in their tenant instead of sending externally to you logged into your tenant. The chats def. should be linked across. I know Microsoft has said they are working on making tenant to tenant stuff work better, but for now we are pretty much stuck with the way it is.

Unfortunately no red mark on the badge.
All you get is an email saying someone posted a chat to you in the other account. So I have to login to the other account and view it.
May as well just email each other! Defeats the purpose of chat totally.
We are going to ditch it and go back to Skype as we cant use chat in Teams with Guests - just not reliable and very poor UX. Hopefully MS agrees and has a fix in dev.

When i was testing this a few months ago i saw the same issue. But after restarting Teams it sarted showing a red badge at the top and when i have expanded accounts it showed missed messages count near the other org. So it kind of works, but you need to restart Teams. Still clunky. Someone should post an idea for this at https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums
