I hope they do clean it up or allow us to delete. I went to delete team and recreate it but it wants to delete corresponding office 365 group and data which I can't do as the team was based on an exsiting Office 365 group with a considerable amount of information stored in it.
Makes me apprehensive to test anything in future.

Did you delete the OneNote in SharePoint? How long ago? Not sure if it does, but have you checked both the site recycle bin and the admin recycle bin? If this is mission critical urgent and you aren't past the timeframe, PSS could potentially restore it for you, probably at some cost for the support hours.

Hi Brendan. You have to put in a conscious effort to delete the notebook. It's in the team site, in the Site Assets library. Have you checked there for the notebook? Or is it possible that you just deleted the General_Notes tab from the notebook? If you find the notebook and create a new section named General_Notes, you may be able to solve your problem.

I had deleted the notebook. I have restored it and now it opens without the error message but I want to delete the tab. When I right click on it there are no options to delete it. It is a custom OneNote tab pointing to a uniquely named notebook, so it wasn't the default that was created. I have tried in the app and on the web.

No I had deleted the whole thing. I restored and now it opens but it is a tab I want to delete. It wasn't a default tab in a default notebook like you mentioned below.

I also want to delete the OneNote tab. I deactivated the OneNote feature in the SharePoint site, but the tab is still there (30 minutes later). I also recognized that new teams dont have the mandatory notebook but I dont want to recreate a group and a team and everything that is currently connected to the group, just to get rid of this tab. There has to be a way to remove the tab!
