I have a notification badge on my teams desktop application which won't go away. There are no new messages or items anywhere, it's just a (1) badge with nothing behind it. I think the issue was caused when a password change caused my teams to log me out while reading a new message. I tried restarting my computer as well as reinstalling teams. The phone app doesn't display the notification, only desktop and browser.

I found a simple way to fix this in case anyone runs into the same thing - just go to your settings, turn off all notifications, wait a few minutes and then turn them back on.

I had the same issue, but it didn't go away even with this solution. Eventually just deleted the app and reinstalled it, and so far it hasn't come back.

I experience the very same issue. When I click the notification from there, there's nothing new to be seen.

Even after a clean re-install of Windows 10 the issue persists. Makes me think that the issue doesn't reside on the local client system itself.

Important: this issue is not only affecting the local desktop client, but also the Microsoft Teams web app (teams.microsoft.com).

Same here.

A user experience irritation. The stuck notification hides other apps controls and information. I have to reboot my machine few times a day to get rid of it. Please, fix it.

Thanks

Amen. It's been bugging me for months.  Thanks for this thread!

Have you tried clearing the Teams cache?  The cache locations can be found in this blog - https://blog.valeconsulting.co.uk/2018/09/28/clear-the-microsoft-teams-client-cache/

Thanks, this solved the stuck badge issue for me.

@Jack Torres

I have experienced this too and for me, if I press ALT+Tab, I can then close the badge by selecting the X in the corner of the window/app selector that pops up.

Thanks @btrav.  I got tired of having to exit and restart Teams almost every morning.  Hopefully Microsoft will fix this soon.

@btrav, This did the trick for me.  Didn't realize you could do that.  Cool little trick!

Awesome!

@Jack Torres There is a setting to allow the application to continue running even if you close it. When this is disabled and then the application is reset, the notification goes away. This can be found from the settings in the systems tray.

The trick you suggested worked for now. Thanks

Remaining artifacts from team notifications is still an issue.

Found that users who leave Teams or Chats at around the same time notifications are posted will get locked toaster notifications.  I add them back to the Chat or Team and the notifications go away, at which time they leave again- and the notifications stay gone.  It's a flaw within Teams that needs to be corrected.

@Ampstacy  Changing the setting you suggested is the only thing in this thread that worked for me. Thanks!

@Jack Torres I had this same problem and found your posting in my research. I'd like to add another variation that I don't think has been posted. I logged into the web client and noticed the activity tab shows no unread activity which conflicts with the desktop application of Teams. I was simply trying to close/quit the application and also attempted the disabling of notifications on the desktop application without success. After comparing the web to desktop version it dawned on me to SIGN OUT of the desktop application instead of just closing. For me, this solved the issue. Upon signing back in on the desktop it corrected the stuck notification setting. I hope this resolves the problem for others that read this thread without having any success with the suggestions so far.
