No option to create a MS Team

I'm no longer getting the option to create a MS Team. I have previously done it from the app, but now I can't do it from the app for Windows or OSX or in a web browser.

In all of these forms, I have the option to 'Add team' which prompts me to browse for an existing team I'd like to join. But nowhere does it allow me to create a new team.

Teams creation is disabled for most users, but I am a global admin and it has never been a problem until now.

 

Please advise.

Is it not switch of in the settings of your admin portal?

Where? There does not seem to be an option in my user settings or in Settings \ Services & add-ons \ Microsoft Teams.

Do you mean that when you clikc on Add team in the app you only get to join existing teams?

 

I've got the same within our production tenant. In my development tenant (where I'm a full admin), I am having the same issue. It looks like something has changed.

Yes, that's exactly it. A few weeks ago, I would have had the additional option to create a new team (I think it was in the centre of the main panel) but that no longer appears. I've not changed anything in the settings that I know of.

I've just tried it with a differnt tenant and it works overthere. I still get the create a team option. I didn notice this time that the wrong login was used ( the login of my production environment). So if you are using the app, you migth want to make sure that your login is actually the same login as the one you expect. Are you using multiple tenants?

 

Do you get the same within the browser version?

 

Also, one of my tenants was a recently expired Office 365 trial tenant. In this tenant I got the same missing options. Could you check your tenant expiry date?

We only have one tenant with no expiry date set that I can see and I am using my standard login. It is a standard Enterprise tenant and we do not have a trial tenant.

 

The problem is the same in a web browser as well as on the app.

I can create Teams from both the Desktop App and the Web one...no problems in my side

I could previously, but something has changed.

I've also just had a colleague try it and they no longer have the option either. So it looks like it may be tenant specific.

Solved!

 

I've had to create an extra security group with permission to create groups. Never needed this before in order for admins to create groups, so I assume something has been changed by an update. Anyone in this group is now able to create groups/teams again.

Where was the mapping for this group to be able to manage Teams?
