No Chat Tab in MS Teams

Hey guys,

 

from one day to the other my chat tab was gone. I can start new chats via Strg + N. On the Webapplication everything seems normal. A Re-Download doesn´t help...Any ideas?

Is your user set to TeamsOnly in the Teams admin centre?

MS Teams is registered as Office Chat-App. Do you mean something else? I also use Skype for Business. But it worked together all the time. We didn´t changed any settings.

Hmm, strange.

There are a few reasons I have heard of why the chat app would disappear.

1.) The admin has disabled chat
2.) The user is SkypeOnly in the Teams Admin Centre. For this see article here

Is your user set in the Teams Admin Portal to SkypeOnly? This could be causing it.

You probably have your tenant and or the user set to Skype Only upgrade mode as Chris alludes to. Recently Microsoft fixed this mode which was supposed to disable chat inside of Teams when set to one of these modes. So my gut tells me you probably are set to this mode or the user is and when this went into place the chat tab went away as it is supposed to as Skype Only mode means IM with Skype.
You'll have to change the upgrade mode of the user to Islands is you intend to use both separately or Teams Only if that is the only client to be used.
