After some glitch or strange connection lost, most of the names of my contacts were replaced with “Unknown User” and restart, relogin cannot bring them back.

Any ways I can restore normal work without adding them once again?

Don't know what has happened, but names returned back after application restart.

I have same issue. After some restarts or days some of the names returned to display as before. But some do still stuck by "Unknown user" in user pane while the chat frame (right hand side) shows the correct name. Strange. Report this to MS? And how?

I saw on another thread to clean the AppData\Roaming\Teams\ folder when the app is closed and then restart but it didn't work for me.. Maybe it'll help you..

I further think this is a server related issue so I did not test to remove the local folder.
But nevertheless I tried now but as assumed - it does not take affect.

In all honesty, I'm not entirely sure on community protocol when there's multiple discussions on the same issue.  As far as I can tell, there's 4 current threads/articles/discussions in the community around seeing 'Unknown User' in Teams. (37625, 370034, 38076 and this one 12661).

 

There appears to be a legitimate reason for seeing this (e.g. user has been deleted from O365, which is in the list of known Teams issues, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/known-issues, with no workaround).  However, there also appears to be something weird happening, potentially just starting today.

 

So I guess I'm pointing anyone who's seeing this issue now (and it's not because of a deleted user) over to this discussion (370034), which has the most recent responses.
