I have 25.7Gb of data (40,450 files and 6,373 folders) on my PC that I need to add to one of my Team's "General" folder.  I need that added there so that when I open the Teams App I can see all these files listed there under the "files" tab.

As seen in the image below I would like all these files to be appearing in the "Files tab" of the "Admin Team".aa.png

I've tried using the "SharePoint Migration Tool v3.1.110.1" but it can't copy to that folder as it simply doesn't see the "General" folder that Teams creates.  I can NOT copy it to https://[hidden].sharepoint.com/sites/admin/Shared%20Documents/ but I can copy it to https://[hidden].sharepoint.com/sites/admin/ and then choose Documents as shown below.aa.png

However you can't see anything on Teams unless you move the items to the General folder... however try as I may, the files do not move.  SP always runs into an error.

Does anybody know how to migrate a large amount of files to the Files tab in teams?

Hi!

Have you looked at third party migration tools such as ShareGate or AvePoint? May be able to do this.

You could sync the site to your local PC and then copy them across but that would be manual work, time and bandwidth.

Hope that answers your question!

Best, Chris

@JohnC1130 Try setting up a CSV file to manage the migration. You should be able to specify down to the folder using that method. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigration/how-to-format-your-csv-file-for-data-content-mi...

Solution

Hi @JohnC1130, you can map your OneDrive within the SharePoint site of Teams and then you just copy the files in your PC and let OneDrive do the sync to the SharePoint site.

You can read more the process here https://support.office.com/en-us/article/sync-sharepoint-files-with-the-new-onedrive-sync-client-6de...

Best Regards

The trail is worthless as it has a warning that says "This is a trial edition. Some items and documents may be randomly skipped". And the cost for a single licence is an eye blistering $5000. Far too much for a small company.

I’m very surprised that SP can't cope with large file copying.
Have you tried any of the other methods outlined within this thread including syncing the SharePoint site and copying, using the CSV method as Timothy suggested or mapping OneDrive as Nino suggested?

Best, Chris

@JohnC1130 Is holding on to the original date and creator metadata fields important to you, for records or something?

@shawn_fielding No not at all.  So long as the items can be copied.  I did however give the OneDrive feature a go and that worked very well.  I'm still new to O365 (coming from a Linux world) but I think I'm getting the hand of things.

Just out of curiosity if metadata fields aren't needed for a migration what would you have recommended?

Thanks, this was actually really easy with your method.

@JohnC1130 Did you mean ARE needed?  My first suggestion would be to use an external tool to make a massive move.  A smaller one probably could be done with the Microsoft move functionality.  If it isn't then either the explorer view, Files on Demand, or the onedrive solution.
