Speaking from a legal office perspective, I can see that some cases would be of such magnitude that a dedicated "Team" or group would be appropriate with related Sub-channels for smaller focus groups of specified people would make sense. On the other hand, using the "Teams" level for the different areas of practice such as Family Law, Personal Injury, Business Law, etc. with Sub-channels reserved for each client/case makes as much sense. In either case, ABSOLUTE, AUDIT & ACCESS CONTROL CAPABILITY MUST BE MAINTAINED at both the Team and Sub-channel levels in order to protect a persons privacy and comply with State and Federal law. We are very anxious to get that Sub-channel Access Control implemented.

I am not seeing this functionality in Teams but I also think it would be GREAT to have! I have projects where certain people are only involved for certain portions (i.e. a testing user group) and I would like a place for them to collaborate but they don't need access to the entire project's collaborative material.

@Marc Wenning Would it be possible for Microsoft Teams Leadership to take a firm position on this and tell us what that position is so as a company we can move forward. I don't see it anywhere in the Roadmap. It seems like it has been under consideration for many years... what gives?

I see the option when I go to create a new channel, but I don't see a way to change the settings of an existing channel. IS there any way to do that?
I also don't see a way to take a private channel and change it to a public channel...

@Mike Boehm There is currently no way to change a normal channel to a private channel. Since the functionality in a normal channel is different from the private channel I don't think it will be possible at all.
